The locals seemed far more concerned with dying in their pollution, industrial accidents, and generally piss poor working conditions, than they did catching the flu.

I would think making all of those batteries is the dirtiest business ever. So dirty only the Chinese undertake it, and then, only their peasants.

Chinese peasants are quite odd in that they're quite comfy being peasants, and seek only the simple pleasures that being a peasant can bring. They're quite well established "in their place", and know that they can be abused and slaughtered at whim.

 

That was the template for the entire world.

Reminds me of all of those "empty" cities in China, where nobody lives. Like, way more than just a "Potemkin Village" would suggest.

Yeah, people's memories do not age well, or get better over time, and this interview was, what, less than a month later. Warm and cordial, concerned about corruption, hope to meet in Poland.
