Most of my family came from Lithuania in the 1890s, but some of the family stayed behind. 94 percent of the Jews there were killed in the Holocaust – the highest percentage of any country.

91 year old Fania Brantsovskaya told me what it was like escaping from the Ghetto in Vilnius, joining the partisans in the forest and coming home after the war as one of only a handful of survivors. She is seen here in front of the memorial at Panerai where tens of thousands of Jews were gunned down and thrown into pits. The Lithuanian archivist has been nice enough to try to help me determine what happened to the some of the members of my family.
