Teacher is kind of the middle man. Gov authority is the state standards and end of year tests based on those standards. Those tests are the' right answers', the infallible source.
Teachers are assessed on how many of their students pass that test. In my opinion, the material needed to be covered is so large that mastery learning is not possible. Best technique for having students pass is to familiarize them with recognizing the 'right answers' and the 'wrong answers'. It's binary. There's no higher logical process used to determine the answer, just memory.
Kids are used to getting an answer about anything they want with their cell phone. They, for the most part, aren't interested in knowing why the 'right' answer is correct.
That's what you see happening now in the political realm in the war to capture voters. All pols have to do is appeal to a voter's vanity to convince the voter that they represent the 'right' answer. There's no 'common sense' involved, or any mental process besides recall.
