Personal experience with defense contracting and overseas travel. The company I work for mandates taking your work laptop is not allowed. It's a violation of ITAR as you have not only proprietary data but could also have government data on your laptop. Even sending an email back from the foreign country you're traveling in to the US using your work email would be considered an export under ITAR.
If we really need a laptop on foreign business travel we request and are issued an export controlled laptop. Basically has nothing on it. I try my level best not to bring any laptop with me, work or personal. It's just not worth it.
I'm shocked that Raytheon wasn't smarter about this. But it goes to show either the disregard for government regulations or just plain laziness on the part of the management. Maybe both.
