Since we are also on the topic of the brain: Almost all current therapies, drugs & cures for addictive behavors involve increasing the alpha wave activity in the brain,

blindly following the voluminous Leading Academic Research which concludes that increasing alpha wave states lead to a decrease of addictive behavior.

 

However, look what happens when alpha waves get too elevated:
