As a point of interest, I came to the conclusion that Solomon carried out the whole ritual in his head - making the cauldron of containment, the lot. He basically invoked all 72 demons into himself and retained control. Quite a feat by any magical standard.
In my youth I chose to read it - not cover to cover, mind. It was interesting but left me with a fear of demons for quite a while afterwards.
The 72 names of god. Crowley assigned a demon to each of the names instead of an angel and as you might imagine summoning the most 72 badass demons into the world instead of their angelic counterparts is a terrifying thought.
