I have a friend in Xiamen China. It's an island off the west coast. Anyway, he says there are 150 American citizens who are in contact with the Embassy. The flights are scarce and most require a Visa to travel through. He says grocery stores, restaurants, etc are still open and the people are outside carrying on their daily life. Personally, I am not worried about this virus as I think it is a hoax to some extent and the people dying are immunocompromised or elderly. A few hundred people out of 1.4 B is not very alarming. I am more worried about the squeeze it's put on the economy. Eventually, the stores will close and there will be no food available, etc. That is when the REAL panic will set in. I think my fren just fucked up by going over there. He was just in the US and went back to finish his second semester teaching English to rich Chinese kids. I wonder in these situations if the Embassy would rescue our citizens esp in the event of dire circumstances in the future.
