my first set was like those maytags but gold. they were my grandmother's and she'd had them for 20 years. i used them for another 7 or 8 and only got rid of them because wife wanted something modern. they still worked. the person i sold them too still uses them. i, on the other hand, have been through 4 sets of 'modern' washers in the subsequent 20 years and none of them washed as good as those old maytags.
fuck efficiency. i want a full tub of hot-ass water and i want it to use a gazillion kilowatts of power to spin a load of jeans bone-dry.
