The chances are high that you would have gotten fucked anyway, and would have to pay a lawyer on top as well.
That happened to me, not in a family court case, but health care related. I live in a country with forced health care insurance "socialized". When you have a job, you have to pay. I got really sick around over 10 years ago. Almost lost my colon. Got chemo therapy and other nonsense.
In the end a not approved medicine saved me, my colon and my sanity. Some months later they stopped making that medicine, because the clinic that saved me, saved too many people and what they did was basically illegal according to nonsense law.
Had to look for a replacement medicine, paid 10.000+ bucks every year for it. Had to fight over a year so that health insurance paid it. They even told me that I should get my colon removed, imagine that. 1.5 years later and they denied any further compensation. Went to court. First "judge" went on a rant about "health insurance would also not pay for water, although humans need water to survive". second "judge" told me that the highest court decided that health insurance wouldn't have to pay and I would have to go there and fight that decision. Chances to do that are very very low.
At the same time I also got to know lawyers. Had lawyers for both trials. First lawyer was really into it and did her best. Second lawyer even came late to the trial and did basically fuck all. In retrospect it was wasted money.
