No, Philbin did not say the words were 'archaic'.
And I never said Philbin said that quote, he was as I mentioned quoting from Alexander Hamilton in Federalist #65.
Philbin's EXACT statement was to first quote from Hamilton, who wrote:
"Though this latter supposition may seem harsh, and might not be likely often to be verified, yet it ought not to be forgotten that the demon of faction will, at certain seasons, extend his sceptre over all numerous bodies of men."
Philbin then said this, in his EXACT WORDS:
"Now that is very 18th century language. We don't talk about demons extending their scepter over men, BUT, it's prescient nonetheless. We may not feel comfortable with the terms, but it is accurate as to what can happen. And that's what happened with this impeachment."
Philbin, while acknowledging that most people today in 2020 do not use the phrases like demons, nevertheless said quite clearly it is accurate as to what can happen, and that's what did happen.
