Transitional ruling council says it learned of talks from media reports and is waiting for Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to return from Uganda to ‘give clarification’

Sudan’s transitional government said it was not informed of a meeting Monday between the African country’s leader and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyanu in which the two leaders agreed to normalize relations between the nations.

Government spokesman Faisal Mohamed Salih said the cabinet was waiting for Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to return from Uganda, where he met Netanyahu.

“We received the news about the meeting between chief of the sovereign council and Israeli prime minister through the media,” Salih said in a statement.

“We, the members of the cabinet, were not notified or consulted about this meeting. We are waiting for the chief of the sovereign council to return and give clarification about this.”

The statement was the first official reaction to Burhan’s meeting with Netanyahu, who said the two discussed steps to normalize ties between the countries.

It came shortly after the Palestinians denounced the sit-down in Uganda as a “stab in the back,” days after Sudan voted along with fellow Arab League member states to reject US President Donald Trump’s plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Burhan heads Sudan’s sovereign council, a transitional body of military officials and civilians that was created as part of a power-sharing agreement following the overthrow of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir last year.

China puts novel coronavirus mortality rate at 2.1%

BEIJING, February 4. /TASS/. Only about 2.1% of people who contracted the novel coronavirus die of pneumonia caused by it, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Tuesday.

"Although the number of new cases of the coronavirus infection is growing, the mortality rate in China is very low and stands at 2.1% [from the overall number of those infected], which is way below the mortality rates of Ebola fever, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) or Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)," the spokesperson said on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s official website.

"At present, the number of those who had recovered is growing steadily. We are absolutely sure of our ability to win this battle against the epidemic," she went on.

The Chinese diplomat added that "China’s efforts in fighting the outbreak were appreciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the international community."

According to a latest report by China's National Health Commission, the number of people who contracted coronavirus in China has exceeded 20,400, the death toll reached to 425 as of Tuesday.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of an unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, a large trade and industrial center in central China populated by 11 million people. On January 7, 2020, Chinese experts identified the infecting agent as coronavirus 2019-nCoV. This new strain of coronavirus has already been identified in another 23 countries, including Russia. The World Health Organization has recognized the pneumonia outbreak in China as an international emergency.

Israelis accuse US of election meddling with timing of Trump ‘peace plan’

Half of Israelis believe US President Donald Trump’s decision to unveil his “peace plan” last week was designed to tip the scales in favor of sitting PM Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming election, a new poll reveals.

Nearly half of Israeli Jews - 46 percent - and 68 percent of Israeli Arabs deemed the American decision to unleash the “deal of the century” to be an attempt to meddle in the March 2 elections on Netanyahu’s behalf, according to a poll conducted in the two days before the big reveal by the Israeli Democracy Institute.

The percentage that resented the intrusion increased as one moved further left, with fully 78 percent of respondents on the left considered the timing to constitute foreign meddling; 69 percent of centrists also thought so. Among those self-identifying as right-wing, just 33.5 percent believed Trump unveiling his plan for the solution to the half-century-old Israel-Palestine conflict constituted election interference.

Pro-Netanyahu media are so eager to begin implementing the peace plan, which gives Israel carte blanche to officially annex illegally occupied West Bank settlements, that they have apparently turned on Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner after he advised the PM to wait until after the election to begin annexation.

GOP Investigation:Thousands Of Obama Admin Docs Under Review Regarding Ukraine White House Meetings

he National Archives is in the process of reviewing several thousand documents related to meetings held between senior Obama Administration and Ukrainian officials at the White House in 2016. The trove of documents was discovered after a request for documents was submitted by two top GOP Senators in November of last year, this website has learned.

The documents requested by Senator’s Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, are significant as they directly concern meetings that senior Obama Administration and Ukrainian officials had at the White House in 2016. The documents are expected to be reviewed for classification purposes, as well as Executive privilege by lawyers for both President Obama and President Donald Trump, officials told SaraACarter.com.

Johnson, Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and Grassley, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, sent the three page detailed request letter in November to David S. Ferriero, the head of the National Archives. The request was for “records of multiple White House meetings that took place in 2016 between and among Obama Administration officials, Ukrainian government representatives, and Democratic National Committee officials.”

Sen. Johnson, who spoke to this reporter, said “we will continue our oversight. We are going to get to the bottom of what all has been happening here. Hopefully we will get access to the information to make it available to the American public so they really do understand what’s been happening.”

A source familiar with the ongoing Senate investigation told SaraACarter.com that the request for documents “is still in NARA’s notification process.”

The National Archives (NARA) did not immediately respond for comment. This story will be updated when and if NARA officials respond to the request.

The National Archives did, however, recently notify the Senator’s offices that the expected response “to our documents request will likely be in the order of several thousand responsive pages. They cannot give us a specific date for when it will completed,” said one source familiar with the investigation.

The notification process, however, will involve notifying both the current and former Trump and Obama administrations, a review that is likely to take time.

The normal notification process involves a 30-day waiting period that has now turned into a “rolling” waiting period for the requested documents on Ukraine.

The November letter requested “records of multiple White House meetings that took place in 2016 between and among Obama Administration officials, Ukrainian government representatives, and Democratic National Committee officials.”

“The White House meeting records also show Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian American operative ‘who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee’ during the 2016 election, attended numerous meetings at the White House, including one event with President Obama,” it stated.

Chalupa allegedly “worked to get dirt on Trump from the Ukrainians,” the letter states, referring to stories originally posted by Politico reporter Ken Vogel, who is now with the New York Times.
