My poor old Dad has early-mid stage dementia. He's slowly losing all his old skills and personality. All he seems to want to do is sleep the day away which is weird because, up until a year ago, he was very into his physical fitness - running, swimming, cycling etc. It has come on so quickly. Apologies for the concernfagging, I'm just worried for him and sad today. My dear mum now basically has to look after him as he is next to useless and forgets everything. It's sad to watch.

>Got a Mom sinking into that. She is physically strong. We give her many things that are helping. Figi water has silica which destroys aluminum in the brain. Homeopathic Alumina does same. CBD OIL and MCT OIL also have a positive results and no side effects. Also coconut oil is recommended.

>P.S. otherwise healthy elderly show signs of dementia when they have a urinary track infection.

>Don't give up, cures are in the pipe.

God bless you and your Mom. Thanks so much for the information, very useful. I have got him taking coconut oil but CBD is not available yet here in Aus. I will look into the Alumina.

>Has he been on cholesterol lowering statin drugs?

>The brain is made mostly of cholesterol and many of these drugs have been tied to dementia. He needs to eat fish high in amino acids.

Thank you for the info, fren. No, he's not on statins. I will look into the fish and other nutrition ideas. Bless you.

>Hope you’re still here.

>If it was fairly sudden, have them test for a UTI immediately. Sometimes it’s hidden but can cause lethargy in the elderly. I feel for you anon… my prayers.

Will check it out. Many thanks, Anon. God bless you.

>Let me know if I can help in other ways.

Thanks so much, Anon. Apart from being forgetful, he's just so tired all the time. Do you think we should be encouraging him to do more exercise and not to sleep during the day or should we let him do what he wants? The doctors think he may be depressed so they have put him on anti-depressants which I have some reservations about.

>I’d try to maybe get him off the antiD if you could… and regulate his sleep/wake cycle by encouraging light exercise, sunlight and things that stimulate his brain. Routine is key as well as keeping things simple and concrete.

>But yes those antiD can really dull the personality.. of course talk to his doctors first but it seems so many are quick with the rx.

Noted. I will follow up with him and his doctor. Many thanks, Anon.

>If you can make sure he gets out in the sun natural form of vitamin D you get less in winter months and causes more depression.

>Early morning sun is best.

Many thanks for this. Luckily, he lives in a very sunny apartment that gets a lot of morning light.
