That's because your concept of God is predefined. Being open to God starts with the humble recognition that there is value in knowledge that transcends your current understanding of existence. In essence, “God” represents all that for which you do not “know”. It’s really that simple and it is the oldest conception of God.

 

Thus, to declare that there is no “god” is to say that there is nothing outside of what you already know. And by saying this, you make yourself a “god”, but a blind one none the less.
