Chuck Missler is a pretty good source regarding the season from a biblical perspective.
I think the general consensus in the 'bible study' community is that we're in unique times to say the least - even as far as 'birth pains'. Look for markers. A rapture would certainly be the largest marker. Tribulation isn't to be confused with 'The Great Tribulation'.
