“South Africa - Mediators Meet Rival Black Leaders” at the Carlton Hotel - https://youtu.be/CbO-XZTl0pI

“International mediators met rival black leaders in South Africa on Wednesday (13/4) in an attempt to defuse the violence threatening historic all-race elections April 26-28. The seven-man mediation team led by former U.S. secretary of state Henry Kissinger and former British foreign secretary Lord Carrington arrived in Johannesburg on Tuesday at the request of Inkatha Freedom Party head Mangosuthu Buthelezi.”

As Pik Botha states in the video, “We must have success, the world wants us to succeed. With Apartheid out of the way, it will be the greatest irony and tragedy if South Africans cannot now meet each other and agree with each other to move forward and make this country the democracy that we ought to be and achieve the greatness that ought to be the destiny of this country.”

Pik Botha, you achieved the “greatest irony and tragedy”. The Carton Hotel, which was abandoned in 1998 and being “guarded around the clock”, stands as a monument to that.
