China rolls back tariffs on US goods as part of trade agreement

Beijing said Thursday that it would halve some tariffs on U.S. goods as part of its "phase one" trade deal with the United States, cutting some to 5% and others to 2.5%. It was unclear how much trade, in U.S. goods, was covered by the reduction, though the tariffs were part of a $75 billion block of U.S. goods that Beijing had targeted for retaliation during last year's trade war.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a statement that the reductions were meant to “alleviate economic and trade frictions and expand economic and trade cooperation” between the two countries. It said it wanted to work toward the "ultimate elimination of all increased tariffs." The move comes as China's economy is being battered by the coronavirus outbreak, and Beijing was moving to soothe concerns in international markets.

The Trump administration and Beijing signed "phase one" of a trade deal earlier this month addressing such issues as currency manipulation, online piracy, and intellectual property theft, and obligating China to buy $200 billion in U.S. goods and services over the next two years. 'Voted to betray': Clinton slams Senate Republicans after Trump acquittal

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ripped Senate Republicans after they voted to acquit President Trump on two impeachment charges of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. "As the president's impeachment trial began, Republican senators pledged an oath to defend the Constitution," Clinton tweeted. "Today, 52 of them voted to betray that oath—and all of us. We’re entering dangerous territory for our democracy. It’ll take all of us working together to restore it."

Clinton, 72, lost to Trump, 73, in the 2016 presidential election and has spent much of the time since repeatedly claiming she actually won because of the popular vote. Last week, she said attacks from Sen. Bernie Sanders's supporters were part of the reason she was unsuccessful in 2016. Clinton faces a $50 million defamation lawsuit that Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii is bringing against the former first lady after she called Gabbard a "Russian agent" in 2019.

2020 odds jump for Trump, 59.99% chance for reelection, 16.7% for Sanders

A week of strong job approval polls for President Trump has ended with the one survey that sizes up his chances for reelection, and the odds are nearly 60% that he will win a second term. Betting aggregator Oddschecker.com put Trump’s chances at 59.99%, and the site shows that Trump has been soaring in the past few weeks, paralleling national job approval surveys including Gallup and the highly watched RealClearPolitics “Trump Job Approval” average. Trump’s odds of victory are now 5/7, said Oddschecker. The firm’s spokesman Pete Watt told Secrets that “Trump is at all time high.”

Far behind is Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has a 16.7% chance of winning the White House and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg with an 11% chance. But with the Democratic race in turmoil after Iowa flubbed its caucuses and indications show a strong first or second place finish for former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttegieg, gamblers are scrambling to fine-tune their bets among the sites Oddschecker examines.

Notably, those betting on the outcome of the New Hampshire primary next week have started to pull the bets for former Vice President Joe Biden, rejected again by Iowa Democrats, and put more on Sanders and Buttegieg. The chances of Buttigieg winning the New Hampshire primary, for example, tripled overnight.

“Some oddsmakers have gone into full panic mode,” said Watt. “It seems that Buttigieg’s gain has been Biden’s loss, with the former VP going very much in the other direction,” he added.

New Hampshire Primary current best odds:

Sen. Bernie Sanders: 1/5

Pete Buttigieg: 5/1

Joe Biden: 16/1

Sen. Elizabeth Warren: 20/1

Andrew Yang: 100/1

Sen. Amy Klobuchar: 100/1

Schiff says Bolton refused to submit affidavit during impeachment trial

Lead House impeachment manager Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Wednesday said former national security adviser John Bolton refused to submit a sworn affidavit during President Trump's Senate trial about his alleged misconduct in withholding military aid to Ukraine. Schiff told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow that after the Senate voted to not call witnesses, Democrats approached Bolton’s counsel to see if he would be willing to give a written statement "describing what he observed in terms of the president’s Ukraine misconduct." Maddow noted that Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y. told reporters earlier the House would likely subpoena him after Trump's acquittal. Schiff added, “For whatever reason, he was willing to testify before the Senate but apart from that seems intent on saving it for his book. He’ll have to answer for that.”

Bolton shook the impeachment trial on Jan. 26 when the New York Times reported a leaked excerpt from his forthcoming book that said Trump explicitly linked the hold on $391 million in Ukrainian military aid to an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden. In early January, Bolton said in a statement he would be willing to testify before the Senate trial if subpoenaed to meet his “obligations both as a citizen and as former National Security Advisor.” Democrats withdrew their subpoena during their impeachment hearings last fall when Bolton challenged it in court. Schiff told Maddow “there’s been absolutely no decision made” about whether the House will subpoena Bolton. Bolton has not commented on Schiff's claim. The Senate voted to acquit Trump Wednesday, with just Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, crossing party lines to convict on the abuse of power charge.

John Kerry Says That The ENTIRE Obama Admin Was Trying To Get Rid Of The Burisma Prosecutor

Kerry tried to come to the aid of the Bidens. But did he just deep-six himself and Obama in the process? The questions about whether the Bidens and Burisma had a Pay-for-Play relationship are not going to die with Trump’s acquittal. In fact, Grassley has already requested Hunter Biden’s travel records from the Secret Service and requisitioned all documents relating to Obama’s administration, DNC officials, and Ukranian officials. We already know the records being sorted through and examined for questions of classification and privilege will number in the 1000s. So, one way or another, we’re going to have a good idea of exactly what the Bidens were up to in Ukraine. If there are sketchy money trails — as alleged — they will be looked into.

Kerry may have just burned himself pretty badly. And not just himself, either. He may have burned Joe Biden, Barack Obama and their favorite Ukranian Ambassador, too. One way or another we’ll find out just who is right about the guy Joe Biden leveraged a $Billion dollars US to deep-six. If it turns out that the documents and connections uncovered by John Solomon and Rudy Guliani, among others, have merit (and some of them trace right back to Adam Schiff!) that could prove absolutely devastating for the ‘scandal-free’ administration that’s already under fire for having wrongfully employed Government resources to spy on a rival presidential campaign.
