'Just call Jay Carney': White House trade czar 'fuming' after Bezos refers him to PR department

White House trade and manufacturing policy adviser Peter Navarro "is fuming," after Amazon chief Jeff Bezos brushed him off and told him to chat with a lower-level executive. Navarro confronted Amazon chief Bezos at a Washington party in a bid to persuade him to clamp down on counterfeits sold through his company.

According to a story by the Washington Post, Navarro, a trade hawk, went face-to-face Bezos at the Alfalfa Club dinner last month, a gathering of politicians and members of the business elite, one day after the Trump administration released a 54-page report on the dangers of selling fake goods from overseas countries such as China, which called out Amazon by name. "Just call Jay Carney. Tell him we’ll meet. We’ll get it done," Navarro said Bezos told him, referring to former Obama press secretary and now Amazon public relations and policy head Jay Carney. Navarro holds a professional portfolio that spans trade and manufacturing and has long singled out China for what he says are unfair trade practices that harm American manufacturing and business.

Navarro, 70, has sought a meeting with Bezos since last April to discuss the issue, which the administration says hurts consumers and businesses and poses a national security risk when fake products are used by defense employees or contractors.

Hillary Clinton on vice president run: ‘Never say never’

Hillary Clinton said she isn’t running for president, but she reluctantly conceded an openness to being on someone else's ticket. Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres asked Clinton, 72, on Thursday whether she would run as vice president if the eventual Democratic Party nominee asked her. “Well, that’s not going to happen,” Clinton laughed. “But no, probably no.” Clinton recalled that she turned former President Barack Obama down twice when he asked her to be secretary of state. “I never say never because I do believe in serving my country, but it’s not going to happen,” she said.

The former secretary of state revealed in November that she was receiving a number of calls urging her to rethink her decision to sit out of the 2020 race. "As I say, never, never, never say never," the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said when asked if she was ruling out a future in public office. "I will certainly tell you, I'm under enormous pressure from many, many, many people to think about it," Clinton said. '''"But as of this moment, sitting here in this studio talking to you, that is absolutely not in my plans.

Chris Wallace: Trump 'better off now' than before impeachment

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said President Trump is in a better position politically now than before the impeachment proceedings against him began. “He’s had a number of bipartisan successes on trade deals. The economy is rolling along. The Gallup poll just came out. It’s the highest he’s had in this presidency, 49%," Wallace said Wednesday. "As far as the political impact, I think you’d have to say that Donald Trump is better off now than he was when the impeachment process began."

Trump was acquitted Wednesday by the Senate on both Ukraine-related charges he faced: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Democrats alleged that Trump misused his status as president when he pressured the leader of a foreign country to investigate his political rivals. Trump said from the beginning, the impeachment against him is a "hoax" and motivated by "partisan hatred" against him. "These are horrible, vicious people," Trump said of Democrats on Thursday.

Trump is popular among Republicans, more than 95% of whom say they approve of the job is he doing as commander in chief. Wallace said being acquitted on the impeachment charges gives Trump a great deal of momentum heading into the 2020 election. '''"You do hope exactly as you say, for some peace, and quiet, and regular order," Wallace said. "Even newsmen, I think, are hoping for that … This is gonna be a tough, bitterly fought campaign
