It was called "Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) proteins of different bat species confer variable susceptibility to SARS-CoV entry" published online: 22June 2010 by Yuxuan Hou, Cheng Peng, Meng Yu, Yan Li, Zhenggang Han, Fang Li, Lin-Fa Wang and Zhengli Shi.

It has obviously been known for some time that variations in this particular protein affect susceptibility to this virus. Dr. James Lyons-Weiler has some interesting ideas about what was happening in Wuhan including the suggestion of a hidden vaccine trial gone awry.

In the previous bread I noticed commentary about how the virus seems to leave children pretty much unscathed. If getting the virus while young confers life long immunity with no untoward effects wouldn't it be desirable to get the virus and recover if you are young?

This incident suggests to me something that I have thought about before. What "selective" bioweapons have been or could be released upon targeted groups?

Does the Wuhan outbreak represent an accidental release of a pathogen, a deliberate release, or something else. If this was a deliberate release, who benefits from the deaths of a lot of Chinese men? The gender ratio in China is seriously off, I've come to understand, due to decades of the one child policy and sex selection by Chinese parents in a society that apparently prefers males. Is China seeking to prevent an uprising for freedom?
