People have no idea of the scale of China.
They also have no idea what the normal daily death rate is. Using NYC as a benchmark with 8 million people, I calculated that Wuhan with 11 million would be at least 583 deaths per day in normal times, And in a filthy city like that, I probably underestimated. It is likely closer to 1500 in normal non-nCoV times.
