Trump tells 3M that they have to put Americans first and not sell N95 masks to other countries like Canada.

Interpretation:

Trump To 3M: Build the entire N95 masks in the US, and fill all States’ orders in the US. Create a complete Domestic Supply Chain. No faulty masks to anyone, and no premium rates either.

Trump to Canada: Canada set up your own supply chain and build your own N95 masks. You can do this!

_____

Canadian PM Trudeau: We will buy N95 masks from Amazon Canada. (Where does Jeff B get masks from? China.) And uhm, stop interfering Trump.

Canadian Deputy PM Freeland: Don’t you (Trump) interfere with trade.

Canadian Media bought and paid for: Trump bad

The Canadian Liberal government doesn't care about establishing manufacturing in Canada. They can't see this as an opportunity for Canadians.

___

To every Canadian Provincial Premier: You have the ability to manufacture N95 masks in your own province. Get busy and set up your supply chain.

To Canadians: If you think you manufacture N95 masks, contact your premier's office and let them know you are available.

Who are the winners and who are the losers in this situation?

Coronavirus: Google Releases Location Data To Help Authorities Check Lock-downs

Tom Jowitt, April 3, 2020, 10:29 am

Location data is being released by Google in 131 countries so officials can see if people are obeying self-isolating rules

Alphabet’s Google division has on Thursday published data for 131 countries that shows whether people are obeying self-isolating and quarantine rules.

The ‘Community Mobility Reports’ from the search engine giant showed whether visits to shops, parks and workplaces dropped in March, Reuters reported.

March is when many countries around the world brought in their lock-down rules, and readers can click here to see the Google reports on their particular country.

Community Mobility Reports

The Google data comes after surveillance firm NSO Group this week claimed it was in talks with governments around the world about using its tracking software, which is already being tested by some nation states.

Google’s analysis of location data meanwhile has come from billions of users’ phones (those phones with a Google account that has location sharing enabled).

Google said that its Community Mobility Reports “were developed to be helpful while adhering to our stringent privacy protocols and protecting people’s privacy. No personally identifiable information, such as an individual’s location, contacts or movement, will be made available at any point.”

The Google data is said to contain charts that compare traffic from 16 February to 29 March on tube, train and bus stations, as well as supermarkets and other broad categories of places.

N.B. company and N.S. university make 3D printed face shields for health care workers

A New Brunswick beverage producer has altered its production to start making protective face shields for frontline healthcare workers battling COVID-19.

Pollen Angels, a mead beverage producer in Fredericton, is using the company’s 3D printer to make badly needed protective face shields for medical workers.

“We have repurposed those printers to produce face shields for health care workers to fill a possible shortage,” said John Way, the owner of Pollen Angels.

Way said he’s fielding calls from various health authorities looking for as many as 1,000 face shields at a time.

But he said that it’s impossible to keep up with demand because the 3D printing process is slow.

So, he’s calling on reinforcements.

“Anyone who can spare the machine time and the filament should start right now so we can begin building a stockpile, however small each location does,” Way said.

We need to think outside the box. This is not a trade war. It is Trump's encouragement for Canada to be the world supplier of N95 masks. Why are we sending the pulp to 3M & China to make masks? Where in Canada could we be making these masks? This is future jobs in Canada!

Any suggestions on which Canadian company might be positioned to grab this and run with it?
