VANCOUVER – Health officials have identified eight new COVID-19 infections in British Columbia, including a "community case" who has not recently travelled outside the province.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said all the latest infections were discovered over the last day, and that half of them are "close household contacts" to one previously identified COVID-19 patient who recently returned from a trip to Iran.

Quarantined nurse condemns CDC’s incompetence in blistering statement

On Thursday, a nurse with the Kaiser Permanente hospital network in California under quarantine for coronavirus released a statement telling the story — and ripping into the Centers for Disease Control for their handling of the crisis.

“As a nurse, I’m very concerned that not enough is being done to stop the spread of the coronavirus,” read the statement, put out by the California Nurses Association labor union. “I know because I am currently sick and in quarantine after caring for a patient who tested positive. I’m awaiting ‘permission’ from the federal government to allow for my testing, even after my physician and county health professional ordered it.”

The Ministry of Health said Friday that six more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Ontario, bringing the total in the province to 28. Four of the 28 have recovered, officials say.

EDMONTON – Alberta has two new presumptive cases of COVID-19.

The two new cases were announced Sunday morning, bringing the total in the province to three presumptive cases and one confirmed case of coronavirus.

The third presumed case, a man in his 60s who lives in the Edmonton zone, had recently been on a Grand Princess cruise before returning to the province on Feb. 21

The fourth presumed case, a woman in her 30s who lives in the Calgary zone, was in close contact with someone who had recently travelled in Europe, including visits to Ukraine, Turkey and the Netherlands.

Ontario identified two more people infected with COVID-19, the Ministry of Health said Sunday evening, raising the province’s number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 31.

One of the two new cases announced Sunday evening include a woman in her 60s who went to Scarborough Health Network-General Site’s emergency department on March 7, after returning from France on March 2.
