Here's what I did:

NRA life memberships are expensive. So is a decade of yearly memberships. I saw on the internet a few years back that they were offering life for $300. I didn't get the memo. Apparently you needed a current NRA life member to sponsor you also. Well, last year I purposely let my yearly expire. Of course they called me to renew, and then I asked whether there were any deals for life membership. They offered the $300 and I accepted, no sponsor needed. I did tell them soon after to stop calling and mailing me because it seemed they were spending my money on postage, and it was annoying. Try it yourself, even if yours hasn't expired.

The problem there is that it could be easily lied about by a govt, and the people wouldn't be able to know. This is unlike 9-11 where people saw and heard newscasters reporting that WTC 7 had fallen while it was still standing, and the many other open source pieces of evidence collected.
