So imagine being some known corrupt dirty player like Adam Schiff. The official front is after you but they haven't pulled the trigger yet(POTUS, Barr, DOJ, Senate etc) then you go online and you're constantly being engaged by army of autists for your crimes. This backchannel is making sure they have nowhere to hide with what they've done. When you're surrounded from all sides, you can keep shouting insults all you want but there comes a point when an order is given to overrun your position and then it's all over.
