Iran’s 8000-Member Cyber Battalion Wages Online Propaganda War Against US: Report

Iran’s cyber battalion, consisting of 8,000 members, has been relentlessly working since 2011 to wage an online propaganda war against the United States, according to a report released by the Atlantic Council.

The report by council experts Emerson T. Brooking and Suzanne Kianpour was released on the 41st anniversary of the Iranian Revolution at a half-day conference in Washington and analyzes how the Iranian regime studies and exploits new communication technologies.

“Modern Iran, born from Islamic revolution and engaged in a 41-year cold war with the United States, has been quick to study and exploit new communications technologies,” said the report.

The Iranian regime started to use social media as a propaganda tool “following the 2009 Green Movement—a series of pro-democracy protests, enabled by Twitter and other platforms, that threatened the stability of Iran’s theocratic government.”

Brooking and Kianpour said Iran’s digital influence operations against the United States include “a continuation of public diplomacy, albeit conducted through misleading websites and social media sockpuppets” to broadcast messages to audiences in Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Middle East.

“The aim of these efforts is to ‘tell Iran’s story,’ the same as any Western government broadcaster might strive to do. The difference is that, as an international pariah, Iran must pursue this work through more clandestine means. Global observers have long learned to doubt the truthfulness and sincerity of Iranian-branded media,” said the report.

We’re living in times of war psychosis. Regime Change wars have no basis in international law. They are entirely illegal, and they are all based on lies. We have seen the results, which are always catastrophic for all but certain vested interests and the oligarch ruling classes. Yet, despite the lies, despite the revelations, public consent is successfully fabricated for each new war.

The truth must shine through because the stakes are increasingly high. The West and its allies have no basis in International Law for their occupation of Syria, for the economic blockade, or for their support of the terrorists in Syria. They are the aggressors. NATO and its allies are committing Supreme International Wars Crimes, not Syria and Syrians.

NATO member Turkey’s invasion and occupation of Syria has further shredded the veil of plausible deniability since it not only supports and protects the terrorists as its NATO partners have always done, but it is also providing further cover for them by dressing them in NATO uniforms. (1)

None of this is surprising since US-led NATO has played “musical chairs” with its terrorists throughout the criminal Regime Change war.

Syrians are understandably disgusted with the criminal occupiers, especially since the aforementioned occupiers are stealing much needed oil resources during the cold Syrian winter.

This is the context underlying a recent incident in which U.S troops reportedly killed a Syrian soldier.

Permanent Syrian resident Lilly Martin described the incident in these words:

“ABC News is lying to you. Today, the US troops who are occupying the Syrian oil wells in Eastern Syria were pelted with stones and small arms fire by CIVILIANS of the area, local farmers and even young kids. I saw the video, they were just local people who are sick and tired of being oppressed by the illegal American troops. Those local, and MYSELF, are without electricity, cooking gas and low on gasoline because President Trump ordered those troops to stay and STEAL the oil. They are following orders, but those orders make them thieves. ABC News has misreported the entire event, and their journalists are not anywhere near the place, and not even inside Syria. They are so far away they would need a plane ticket. This is unacceptable. The facts of the case: the US troops came under attack by stones and small arms fire, private citizens using their household guns. In retaliation, the US military bombed residential areas, killing civilians and wounding others, as you see from the hospital photo caption. Civilians are allowed to fight the occupation with arms under the Geneva Convention. The US military in response should have backed off, found a safe place to retreat to, their base, and should never have sent planes to bomb civilians. I count today as one of the darkest chapters of the US occupation of Syria.” (2)

Kushner’s Stamp of Zionist Racism on Peace Plan

There was never much doubt that Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was going to roll out as his much-ballyhooed “Middle East Peace Plan” an 80-page contrivance that would hand large portions of the West Bank to the Israelis and relegate the Palestinians to a powerless “state” composed of enclaves totally surrounded by heavily-militarized Israeli territory. Kushner, who claimed he became a Middle East expert after reading twenty-five books since his pro-Israel father-in-law named him America’s Middle East peace agreement special “envoy” three years ago, never invited the people most impacted by his “dead-on-arrival” plan – the Palestinian people – to the negotiating table.

Neither Kushner nor Trump felt it was necessary to have invited Palestinians to the January 28, 2020 White House ceremony unveiling the “peace plan.” Only Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has been criminally charged in Israel for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, was invited to the White House ceremony. Netanyahu is so close to the Kushner family that he once slept in Jared Kushner’s bed when visiting the Kushner family in New Jersey.

Also present at the White House ceremony was major Trump campaign donor and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, an individual whose hatred for the Palestinians knows no bounds. Another key player in Trump’s lavish giveaway of the West Bank to the Israelis is David Friedman, Trump’s one-time bankruptcy lawyer and his ambassador to Israel. Friedman is on record advocating Israel’s annexation of the West Bank, which he and other expansionists call “Judea and Samaria,” place names drawn from a set of Biblical books of Hebrew mythology and folklore. Yet Kushner referred to previous serious Middle East peace plans, including the 1991 Madrid Conference and 1993 Oslo Accords as “fairy tales” and “tired old ideas.” In fact, ancient texts justifying slavery, misogyny, and fratricide – otherwise known as the Old Testament – represents true fairy tales and tired old ideas having no place in the 21st century.

Jared Kushner’s ex-federal convict father, Charles Kushner, has been a lifelong friend of Netanyahu and a key officer in Israel’s political influence machine in the United States. It was therefore not surprising that Jared Kushner’s plan advocates a Palestinian non-contiguous entity on the West Bank subservient to Israel and connected to the open-air ghetto of Gaza by an underground tunnel. It was Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist dogma to equate Jews to rats and mice. Apparently, some of those, like Kushner and Netanyahu, who bemoan the loss of members of their families during the Holocaust, would relegate the Palestinians to human rodents scurrying underground beneath the ground between Gaza and the West Bank “reservations” allotted to the Palestinians.

Israel would annex a third of Palestinian territory, including the entire Jordan River valley, cutting Palestinian enclaves off from a common border with Jordan. The Kushner plan also deprived the Palestinians of a capital city in East Jerusalem. Kushner proposes the Palestinian capital be located in some slums in an eastern suburb of Jerusalem.

The only Arab ambassadors to Washington who were present at Kushner’s West Bank annexation plan for Israel were those from Bahrain – a virtual Saudi Arabian puppet state, Oman – which is still trying to get its diplomatic footing after the death of its leader, Sultan Qabus bin Said, and the United Arab Emirates, which an increasingly doddering Trump referred to in his remarks as the “United Arab Air Mattress.”

Household debt jumps the most in 12 years, Federal Reserve report says

Household debt surged in 2019, marking the biggest annual increase since just before the financial crisis, according to the New York Federal Reserve.

Total household debt balances rose by $601 billion last year, topping $14 trillion for the first time, according to a new report by the Fed branch. The last time the growth was that large was 2007, when household debt rose by just over $1 trillion.

Fed economists said on the Liberty Street Economics blog that the growth was driven mainly by a large increase in mortgage debt balances, which rose $433 billion and was also the largest gain since 2007.

Housing debt now accounts for $9.95 billion of the total balance. Balances for auto loans and credit cards both increased by $57 billion for the year, according to the Fed.

The economists said in the blog post that credit cards have again surpassed student loans as the most common form of initial credit history among young borrowers, following several years after the crisis when student loans were higher.

“The data also show that transitions into delinquency among credit card borrowers have steadily risen since 2016, notably among younger borrowers,” Wilbert Van Der Klaauw, senior vice president at the New York Fed, said in a statement.

However, even as the total amount of household debt has risen, the level of household debt service as a percentage of disposable personal income is at all-time lows going back to 1980.

The new report showed credit standards tightening for some forms of debt even as the overall balance increased. The median credit score for newly originating borrowers for mortgages and auto loans increased slightly in the fourth quarter, according to the Fed.

Mortgage originations were $752 billion in the fourth quarter, the highest quarterly rise since 2005, but this was mostly due to an increase in refinancing activity, the Fed said in a press release.
