"House Democrats hope to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment which would make discrimination against women illegal. The House will vote Thursday on a resolution they say would ratify the ERA.

Congress passed the ERA in 1972. It set a 10-year deadline for the amendment to be ratified by three-fourths of the states. Democrats argue the deadline was a date arbitrarily picked by Congress and states canโ€™t rescind once they ratify.

But itโ€™s unlikely that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will allow that. The Justice Department is opposed and some Republicans say the ERA is really about abortion.

โ€œIf ratified, the ERA would be used by pro-abortion groups to undo pro-life legislation,โ€ said Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ).

"A polio-like illness called acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is affecting children at a higher rate, with cases increasing in even-numbered years.

While polio still exists today, cases have decreased by more than 99% since 1988, according to the World Health Organization.

AFM has been peaking every other year since 2014, according to new information released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

If the pattern holds, 2020 could be another peak year. The illness has left some children paralyzed."
