US Embassy-Romania Promoted Islam and Soros Foundation 2009-2012

Looking into the Romanian Embassy Land Deal over 2009-2012, when Mark Gitenstein was Ambassador August 28, 2009 – December 14, 2012. Not seeing press releases in the state dept archive (yet) but did find evidence of the Islam and the Soros Foundation influencing US Foreign Policy.

State Department annually recognizes “International Religious Freedom Day” and issues reports for various countries. For Romania, it discusses the religious make-up, the history and restoration of property since the communist block era, religion related crime, and government recognition of different faiths. Viewed 2002, 2010 and 2011 reports, all very similar and note a very small Muslim population (55k in 2002 or 0.3%) mostly in the southeast regions of Romania. The religious holidays recognized as national holidays Christmas (December 25), Orthodox Easter, Pentecost Monday, and the Assumption of Mary.

The 2002 report is basically the religious demographics of Romania. US policy is to discuss religious freedoms with the government and to respect all faiths and denominations.

The 2010 report is comparable, some minor updates to religious issues since 2002. Section IV. U.S. Government Policy illustrates the change in policy under the [Hussain] occupation in the following statement:

“The ambassador hosted a meal to break the fast following the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur and an iftar dinner following the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. In addition the ambassador, deputy chief of mission and other embassy officials attended various events celebrating the different religions practiced in the country.”

The 2011 report is similar in content to the 2010 report, however, it recognizes an outside agency for conducting religious adherence studies. The report recognizes “Soros Foundation.”

“According to a survey conducted by the Soros Foundation in June, approximately 50 percent of respondents attend church at least once a month and one-third of that number state they attend church at least once a week”

The 2011 Section IV. U.S. Government Policy, it again mentions respecting all religious freedoms. But the only holiday celebration mentioned in a nation < 1% muslim, is the iftar at Ramadan (Yom Kippur not mentioned).

“The ambassador hosted an iftar (evening meal during Ramadan), inviting representatives from more than a dozen faiths. In addition, embassy officials attended various events celebrating the country’s varied religions traditions.”

Another example of the US State Department promoting Islam during 2009-2012 is [HRC] herself. She provided annual messages and receptions for iftar dinners, recognition of Ramadan, and the Eid al Fitr reception at the end of Ramadan. Recall in July 2012, Rep Bachmann asserted Huma Abedin’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. On Aug 20, 2012, end of Ramadan, the White House held their annual Eid dinner reception. Both the White House and State Department issued their annual press releases. The State Department (HRC and Abedin) did not host an Eid dinner reception until September 13, 2012.

Guess what happened Sept 11, 2012.

“the eid reception could not have been worse timing” Abedin

As for Ambassador Gitenstein, his history included working as a staffer for Senator Biden and part of his VP transition team in 2009. Likely the land lease agreement with corrupt businessman Popoviciu for the new US embassy occurred in 2009. (still searching the archives for verification)

Judicial Watch Weekly Report – Soros Activities in Romania

Weekly Update: New Soros Lawsuits

Hungarian-American George Soros became a billionaire from hedge funds he started, and also from short-selling pounds sterling during England’s currency crisis in 1992. That maneuver earned him $1 billion and the appellation, “The Man Who Broke the Bank of England.”

By 2018 he had only $8 billion in the bank, having given $18 billion to his Open Society Foundations, which support leftist causes in the United States and around the world.

You’d think he wouldn’t need your help. However, taxes you pay have been supporting this guy. Not surprising, as certainly the Obama administration was fond of using your tax dollars to fund leftwing organizations.

Judicial Watch already sued about his activities in Macedonia and Albania, as well. The former Prime Minister of Macedonia Nikola Gruevski reportedly called for a “de-Sorosization” of society. In February 2017,we reported that the U.S. government has quietly spent millions of taxpayer dollars to destabilize the democratically elected, center-right government in Macedonia in collusion with Soros.

And now we’re investigating Soros efforts in Romania and Colombia with two new federal lawsuits.

We just filed FOIA lawsuits against both the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for records relating to their funding of the political activities of the Soros Open Society Foundations of Romania (Judicial Watch v. U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (No. 1:18-cv-00667)) and the Soros Open Society Foundations of Colombia (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:18-cv-00668)).

We filed the Romania lawsuit after State and USAID failed to substantively respond to our October 16, 2017, FOIA request seeking, among other records:

All records relating to any contracts, grants or other allocations/disbursements of funds by the State Department to the Open Society Foundation – Romania and/or its personnel and/or any OSFR subsidiary or affiliate.

All assessments, evaluations, reports or similar records relating to the work of Open Society Foundation – Romania and/or its subsidiaries or affiliated organizations.

We filed the Colombia suit after State failed to respond to our October 23, 2017, FOIA request seeking among other records:

All records regarding any contracts, grants or other allocations/disbursements of funds by the State Department to the Open Society Foundation – Colombia and/or any OSF subsidiaries/affiliates, and/or OSF personnel operating in Colombia, as well as the following entities: Fundacion Ideas para la Paz; La Silla Vacia; DeJusticia; Corporacion Nuevo Arco Iris; Paz y Reconciliacion; Global Drug Policy Program; and news portal Las Dos Orillas.

All records of communication, whether by e-mails, text messages, or instant chats, between any officials, employees or representatives of the State Department in Colombia, including Ambassador Kevin Whitaker and any officials, employees or representatives of the Open Society Foundation, its subsidiaries/affiliates, and/or those entities identified in the first bullet.

As in other parts of the world, a number of Soros-funded entities and projects in Romania are also funded by the United States Government. The Romanian Center for Independent Journalism, which is supported by the Open Society Institute in New York, recently received $17,000 from the State Department.

In February 2017, Laura Silber of Open Society Foundations reportedly condemned “illiberal governments” in the Balkans, such as Macedonia, Albania and Romania, for working against the Soros NGOs. In Romania, in March 2017, the leader of the governing party reportedly charged that the Soros foundations “that he has funded since 1990 have financed evil.”
