Yes, they would. They wouldn’t shorten it.
The problem is not with Russians.
The problem is that English speakers are not taught how to read every letter in a word and thus figure out what the word is. Those who have not been taught phonics are taught to look at the whole word and try to recognize what it is, the “whole word” theory of literacy.
Which has absolutely terrible failure modes: you have a hard time dealing with words that are unfamiliar, and with words that are long, and also you get bad spelling because when you just recognize a word holistically, you do not remember in which order the letters come.
So people see Russian words transliterated, or Indian or Thai names, or chemical terms, and panic.
“Lisdexamfetamine” is a perfectly English word (it’s a drug used to treat attention deficit disorder; I looked it up yesterday). And yet I suspect many English readers would wonder if they could shorten it because they just can’t deal with reading that many letters and syllables. Indeed, they do: they go by its brand name, Vyvanse.
