I knew someone who was close to Sergey Brin in High School. He seemed pretty ordinary, but definitely a computer nerd. He attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD which is a Science and Technology magnet school. It is a public school. You have to pass a test to get in while you are in 8th grade.
Sergey was exceptional in that he applied and was accepted for early admission to college so he skipped 12th grade.
He ran a bulletin board system that last year. Those of you old-timers who recall early internet should know what those are. Think like a hangout for modem users. I used to have to share a computer with my siblings but my sister showed me that BBS and i played around on it some.
Back in HS Sergey seemed pretty decent. I personally tended to want to think he was the one who put up the Don't Be Evil phrase. I could be wrong though. I know he's gotten mixed up in something pretty dark, but i guess i kind of hope that his hands arent as dirty as Schmidt's.
