Stanford faculty hold 'teach-in' to train climate activists

On Monday, the group hosted a “teach-in” led by university faculty aimed at equipping young activists.

Environmentalist group “Fossil Free Stanford” hosted a faculty-led teach-in Monday to educate activists in their fight to convince Stanford University to divest from fossil fuels.

The teach-in was facilitated by a group of faculty and so-called experts who aimed to equip students with the information they need to become better climate activists, reported the Stanford Daily. The ultimate goal of this event and its organizing group was to compel Stanford to cease all investments in the fossil fuel industry and move to “ethical” alternatives.

“The industry wants to be able to drill where they want to, and this happens to be minority, Latinx communities."

“Based on our research, ethical investment is not less profitable,” Erica Scott, president of the Associated Students of Stanford University told The Stanford Daily.

Navy Chaplain Accused of Violating Constitution for Encouraging Personnel to ‘Lead Like Jesus’

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) is once again creating a problem where none exists.

Their latest target is Cmdr. Richard Smothers, chaplain of Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island, who is teaching a 12-week, optional seminar called “Lead Like Jesus.”

This time, the MRFF decided to stir up unnecessary trouble when an email was sent to base leaders, containing a flyer with information about the faith-based seminar. They’re demanding that the base’s commander, Ian Johnson, conduct a full investigation of Cmdr. Smothers and anyone else who promoted the event with flyers or emails. They argue that through the email flyers, service members are being “voluntold” to attend a Christian event.

Last time we checked, a military chaplain’s primary function is to provide religious services and counseling, which inevitably means informing fellow service members of updates regarding faith-related seminars for which attendance is voluntary. However, it seems like the MRFF has invented a “mythical” version of the Constitution where chaplains are in violation of the law for…doing their job.

Bankruptcy Filed by Boy Scouts of America over Sex Abuse Lawsuits

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has sought bankruptcy protection in a move the group says will allow it to build a compensation fund for sex abuse victims and address hundreds of outstanding claims for redress.

The move follows a number of lawsuits filed against the organisation over claims of sexual abuse, alleging it failed to prevent hundreds of cases dating back over decades.

Most of the newly surfacing cases date to the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s; the organisation says there were only five known abuse victims in 2018.

All civil lawsuits against it are now on hold as a result of the bankruptcy application as the group is struggling with declining membership as well as the abuse claims.

“The BSA cares deeply about all victims of abuse and sincerely apologises to anyone who was harmed during their time in scouting. We are outraged that there have been times when individuals took advantage of our programs to harm innocent children,” chief executive Roger Mosby said in a statement.

Court papers filed in Delaware listed liabilities of up to $1bn and assets of as much as $10bn, reports say.

California Wants to Exempt LGBT Child Rapists from Sex-Offender Registry

Lawmakers in California are working on legislation that would exempt some homosexual and transgender child rapists from the state's sex-offender registry, leaving registration up to the discretion of the individual judge.

And considering the make-up of California's far-left judiciary and the broader state government, it is virtually a certainty that many child-raping homosexuals and transgenders will be left off the list of sex-offenders.

The bill, dubbed “LGBTQ Young People Nondiscrimination in the Sex Offender Registry Act,” is ludicrously being described by proponents as a “civil rights” issue, as if there were a civil right for adult homosexuals to sodomize children.

Under the legislation, a 24-year-old grown man would be able to sodomize a 14-year-old boy and claim it was “consensual.” Of course, 14-year-old children cannot consent to sodomy — or vote, smoke, drink, drive, sign contracts, and so on — because they are children.

Twitter down across eastern US and parts of Europe in latest major outage

Hundreds of users have reported issues with the Twitter website Tuesday afternoon, while the mobile app appears to be largely unaffected. Twitter has not given any explanation for the mysterious outage at time of writing.

The reported issue with the site began at approximately 2:34pm UK time according to popular crowdsourcing site DownDetector, which logged some 1,844 incidents of outages from around the globe.

While the vast majority of complaints were about the website, some eight percent of reports related to iphone or ipad users, indicating the outage may be spreading.

Dutch Prosecutors Refuse to Comment on Leaked Documents That Cast Doubt on MH17 Probe

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Dutch Public Prosecution Service has declined to comment to Sputnik on the recently-leaked documents concerning the probe into the Malaysia MH17 crash in Ukraine, saying that it will speak about specific evidence or proof "in the courtroom only."

"The Netherlands Public Prosecution Service cannot comment on specific evidence or proof. This will happen in the courtroom only," spokeswoman Brechtje van de Moosdijk said.

On Monday, Dutch journalist Max van der Werff, who specializes in the crash probe, leaked a number of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT)'s documents.

One of the letters shows that the Dutch military intelligence service was unable to find a single Buk missile system capable of shooting down the Malaysia Airlines Boeing as it was flying over Ukraine, at the height of the 2014 conflict between Kiev and the self-proclaimed eastern republics.

Flight MH17 crashed with 298 people on board on July 17, 2014, in eastern Ukraine while en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, leaving no survivors. Kiev accused Donbas militias of downing the aircraft, while the self-proclaimed republics said that they had no weapons capable of downing such a plane.
