More Americans are Republican Than Democrat Now According to New Poll

More bad news for Democrats as they head into the Nevada Democratic debates. It would appear that new polling shows that more people now identify as Republican than Democrat.

According to Gallup, Republicans have trailed behind or tied Democrats in terms of self-identification for some time now, but late last month the tables turned with Americans identifying as Republican at 30 percent, up from three points earlier in the month. The number of people identifying as Democrats stayed the same, however, those who identify has Independent shrank, suggesting they drifted to the right.

After Stonewalling For Days, Sen. Chris Murphy Finally Admits He Secretly Met With Iranian Regime In Munich

Sen. Chris Murphy confirmed The Federalist’s reporting that he privately met with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif without State Department knowledge or approval in Munich last week.

After Mollie Hemingway first reported the meeting Monday, Murphy did not respond to any media inquiries. Tuesday, he published an account of his trip on Medium, sharing details of his meetings and describing his “mission” to meet with officials of Iran, which he described as “our adversary, responsible for the killing of thousands of Americans.”

Murphy also described his “goals” for meeting with Zarif, but admitted that he “cannot conduct diplomacy on behalf of the whole of the U.S. government, and I don’t pretend to be in a position to do so. But if Trump isn’t going to talk to Iran, then someone should.”

The Coup of the Century: How the CIA eavesdropped on the world for decades

For decades, the Central Intelligence Agency, along with its West German counterpart the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), secretly controlled the Swiss-based company Crypto AG, which enabled them to engage in decades of communication interception.

Crypto AG, which went defunct in 2018, sold encryption devices to governments across the world. However, this CIA-owned company managed to covertly rig their devices by building in backdoors that allowed the U.S. and the German government to easily crack supposedly encrypted messages.

The firm was purchased by the two intelligence agencies back in 1970 through a shell organization registered in neighboring Liechtenstein. Over the course of nearly five decades, roughly one hundred countries were targeted.

States that purchased Crypto AG products include Iran, Pakistan, several Latin American states, India, as well as the Vatican.

The operation, initially codenamed “Thesaurus” and later “Rubicon,” was according to a CIA report “the intelligence coup of the century.”

Time to End the Tyranny of District Court Judges’ Nationwide Injunctions

On Feb. 6, U.S. District Judge Loretta Biggs of North Carolina issued an injunction barring the Trump administration from implementing a new policy that changes how the government calculates the duration of an illegal immigrant’s unlawful presence in the country.

Although an injunction is the correct legal tool to stop someone from doing something, Biggs had a choice in how broad that injunction should be.

She could use an injunction that prevented the government from using the new calculation on the plaintiffs who sued, or she could use a so-called nationwide injunction that barred the government from using the new calculation against anyone, anywhere.

Biggs chose to issue a nationwide injunction. Actually, that’s a misnomer. These are better called “universal” or even “absent-party” injunctions, because they aren’t limited either by their geographic scope or the parties they cover.

Instead, they stop the government from enforcing a law or policy against anyone, anywhere.

AG Barr takes aim at a key legal protection for Big Tech companies

The Justice Department hosted a workshop Wednesday to debate the importance of Section 230, which protects online platforms from being legally liable for their users’ posts.

Attorney General William Barr said the discussion was part of a “holistic approach” the department is taking toward the tech industry, in addition to the Antitrust Division’s efforts.

Barr questioned if Section 230′s immunity still makes sense in a world where a small number of tech companies have massive scale and host a large amount of public discourse.

Attorney General William Barr took aim Wednesday at a key legal protection for the tech industry, calling into question whether it is still needed as a small number of key tech players have reached a massive size and scale.

Besides questions of anticompetitive behavior, Barr said at a Department of Justice workshop, the agency is considering what a concentrated tech market means for a legal immunity originally created to help small start-ups thrive.

Massachusetts City Allowing Illegal Aliens To Drive Without A License

City councilors in Cambridge, Massachusetts, voted to prohibit police officers from arresting illegal aliens if they are caught operating a vehicle without a license.

Under a newly passed city ordinance in Cambridge, residents are still legally required to carry a driver’s license if they are operating a vehicle, but local law enforcement has been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens caught driving without identification, Boston 25 News first reported.

The city ordinance, ordained Feb. 10, marks what appears to be the most lenient policy for undocumented immigrants and roadway rules.

The city councillors who passed the ordinance say its necessary given increased immigration enforcement emanating from the White House.
