in the movie the white squall happens near the end. the skipper tells the man at the helm to turn downwind, but he doesn't. ends up capsizing the ship. people trapped inside. some die. captain under review to lose his sailing school/cert, but his men back him to the end. a big part of the movie seems to be to push boys to become men.
