I think Charlie Stross' "Laundry Files" series are the mix that Anon was discussing. It's james bond meets occult/"computational demonology"
He even describe the Clowns very accurately.
Stross himself is a bit of an arse these days, but something is whispering in his ear for how accurate some of that stuff is.
It's a bit of a hopeless lovecraftian nightmare, but the underlying themes are interesting.
