It's not that difficult. Most of the Russian gas transported to Central Europe transited Ukraine. The neocons & 0bama admin fucked up Ukraine. Russia needed a reliable route for gas to C. Europe, hence Nordstream.
Now that Zelensky is in power, maybe the underground pipes in Ukraine can be reliable again. Putin & Zelensy signed the transit agreement over a month ago.
