I was 0 dollars poor at one point and can speak to this. If you live in a very big city, go dumpster diving. If you're in the states, apply for food stamps. When hitting any social services, be prepared to be humiliated, some of these people are where they are so they can pick on other people, but don't let that stop you, consider it all your education on how to deal with the system and material to write your book. If you live in an area with a large minority population and you are white, be prepared to get kicked around by those flunkies manning the desks, they are typically assholes of all hues trying to help people on the bottom by making those one layer up miserable.
