A mob of sixty youths from immigrant housing projects accompanied by ultra-left-wing extremists attacked the police station in Marseille’s 2nd arrondissement last Saturday evening in an attempt free two Lidl robbers in police custody.
The clashes erupted at around 8pm on Saturday evening when the mob of young immigrants and far-left activists hurled projectiles and firecrackers at police while chanting the word “assassins”, local newspaper La Provence reports.
Due to the security threat, police called in reinforcements. Crews from the Security and Intervention Company (CSI) and the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) promptly arrived at the scene and prevented the violent situation from escalating.
Thanks to the security contractors, the area surrounding the police station was quickly secured and the cowardly attackers retreated.
The group of left-wing extremists and immigrant youths had originally shown up to the station to demand the release of a pair of robbers who had been in police custody since the previous evening. A third individual, aged 19, who had tried to rob the same store, was killed by police after he pointed a gun at them.
“Under conditions that the investigations will specify, a police officer opened fire several times after being himself, then one of his colleagues, threatened by one of the criminals armed with a rifle,” said the prosecution.
Earlier this month, Voice of Europe reported on the exploding levels of delinquency that have been seen so far in France in 2020.
This January, the number of cases of intentional assault and battery has surged to an average of 140 attacks per day, marking a 21 percent increase from last January.
Last month also saw acts of hostage-taking increase by 36.8 percent, kidnapping increase by 13.7 percent, and threats and blackmail increase by 9.6 percent. Thefts with knives were also up 21.6 percent from the previous year, while the number of sexual offenses increased by 14 percent from the previous year.
And just days ago, Voice of Europe – citing Le Figaro – reported that nearly half of the criminals in the Paris metro area are foreign nationals.

A Belgian pensioner died on Thursday after being beaten into a coma by an Afghan asylum seeker three weeks ago.
Jos Haex, aged 73, died in a hospital bed after family members gave the order for the physicians to take him off of life-support after he was declared brain dead. The 73-year-old pensioner had spent three weeks in a coma before the decision was made to end his life, SCEPTR reports.
Three weeks ago, Haex was discovered lying unconscious on the ground after he went out for a stroll in the forest in Peer, Belgium. His attacker, the Afghan asylum seeker, was apprehended by police not far from where the 73-year-old man had been lying after haven been beaten to a pulp. Apparently just days before the brutal attack, the Afghan man had been released from a psychiatric hospital, despite having a severe psychiatric past.
After being discovered lying unconscious, the 73-year-old victim from Peer was rushed to the hospital, where he later fell into a coma and his life began slipping away.
“It has only gone downhill in recent weeks,” Haex’s son Patrick told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“My sister stayed with him every day and constantly watched. This morning he died around 7.30 am. We had already given up hope for a long time, but it is hard to believe that the time has come.”
The mourning family is dumbfounded by the fact that a man with such a severe psychiatric past could roam the streets of Peer freely and without any government oversight.
“If that man actually has psychiatric problems, why could he walk around freely? Are all asylum seekers screened for that? I think that is hardly possible in practice, but our dad has now fallen victim to it, ” Haex’s son Patrick said.
The Afghan murderer is set to appear in court on Friday. The asylum seeker’s personal attorney says that his client appears to be quite uninterested and apathetic about the entire situation.

The Swedish news site Samhällsnytt published a video clip on Wednesday which showed a Swedish girl being severely abused and beaten by a group of people.
It is currently unclear where the brutal beating took place. According to reports, the video was filmed in early February and uploaded by a “Hussein” on the popular social media platform Snapchat.
The video shows several people stomping on and beating a lone girl all over her body. While the beating is taking place, the person who is most likely filming yells “kill her wallah” (wallah is Arabic for I swear to Allah).
Furthermore, the same person encourages the savage attackers to “fuck up the ribs” and “stomp the ribs” on the girl.
The video has gone viral in Sweden and both the right and the left are horrified by it, only for different reasons.
The right asks how much more violence and hatred the country can take, and when will those who are in power take real and effective measures against it?
Meanwhile, the left asks how the right can be so evil to even share the video and as a result spread hatred towards migrants.

"Together with the executive vice president of the World Jewish Congress Maram Stern, the panel was chaired by Chief Rabbi Goldschmidt and focused on the dangers caused by social media, including rampant anti-Semitism, far-right extremism and Islamophobia – all of which have found new life online.
A key agenda point addressed how social media channels spread messages faster and more efficiently than ever before and that more needs to be done to regulate these channels. The speakers concluded that tech giants are failing to deal with forms of racist hatred and the dissemination of extremist views across their platforms.
Speaking to the Munich Security Conference, Chief Rabbi Goldschmidt said: “The internet has created a vast arena in which those who hold a deep hatred towards religious groups, for instance, are able to share their views with others. More worryingly, they use a variety of platforms such as instant messaging to share dangerous tactics in their attempt to attack – both verbally and physically – those who do not subscribe to their way of thinking or choice of lifestyle. The evidence is clear: Hate and prejudice is commonplace on social media. Goldschmidt called on governments around the globe to regulate social media to avoid its misuse. During the debate, many agreed that technology has, to a certain extent, “broken” democracy. Peter Neumann, Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR), King’s College London said that from a technological point of view “free speech actually is working against democracies” and that “hate speech, in particular, is a huge challenge for our democracies today.”
To combat this problem, Prof. Dr. Michel Friedman, lawyer, philosopher, and Executive Director of Center for Applied European Studies (CAES) pointed out that we first must discuss and understand when a hate crime begins and when it is necessary to respond. To counter this, the panel suggested copying the example of the digital fight against Islamic state. Here, major internet platforms joined forces to remove online jihadism from forums and accounts internationally.
Alex Samos, Center for International Security and Cooperation CISAC, Stanford University (U.S.A.) and former Chief Security Officer at Facebook argued that although there is a broad government coalition against the Islamic State, “there is no broad alliance of states against right-wing extremism.” He went further in saying that “if an Islamist contribution is censored, nobody cares. If they censor right-wing extremist politicians, that leads to a problem because some of them are sitting in governments.”"

A court in Wrocław, Poland has dismissed a lawsuit against the organizers of an anti-LGBT campaign that portrays homosexuals as potential pedophiles, concluding that the activity had an ‘informative’ and ‘educational’ purpose and helped raise awareness of pedophilia:
The campaign, run by ultraconservative NGO Fundacja Pro, has become a familiar sight around Poland in recent years. In particular, the group is known for driving vans through city centres broadcasting anti-LGBT messages over loudspeakers and displaying them on large banners.
Their slogans warn that the “LGBT lobby wants to teach children” and include calls to “stop paedophilia”, with a logo showing a crossed-out rainbow flag. The group also publicizes various claims regarding the alleged prevalence of child abuse among gay people based on controversial and contested research by American scholars Mark Regnerus and Paul Cameron.
Efforts by LGBT individuals and organizations to respond to the campaign have been hindered by the fact that Poland’s hate-crime laws do not cover sexual orientation or gender identity.
Last year, however, lawyer Bartłomiej Ciążyński – who is deputy chairman of Wrocław city council and the mayor’s plenipotentiary for tolerance – filed a civil suit against Fundacja Pro, arguing that its campaign “insulted, slandered and violated the dignity” of an LGBT client, reported website Onet.
But this week the district court in Wrocław dismissed the case. In his justification, Judge Adam Maciński said that Fundacja Pro’s campaign “should be considered as having an informative and social dimension”, reported Gazeta Wyborcza.
“It illustrates the issue of paedophilia to the public, as well as differences in the way sex education is implemented among minors…while [also] addressing the problem of extreme sexual education,” said the judge. “The campaign did not take the form of aggressive criticism, let alone stigmatising or harassing the plaintiff.”
As a result, Maciński ruled that the campaign “is an expression of the defendant’s constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech and of belief”. Ciążyński has promised to appeal against the decision.

“Our history has been told about men for men and by men,” says the historian Alexis Coe. “We’ve seen that when women and people of color start addressing what we consider basic history they find that we don’t know what we think we know.”
She demonstrates this deftly in her new biography of George Washington, in which she peels away at the myths surrounding the first President to reveal the many flaws of the man beneath. You Never Forget Your First is cheeky in tone, approachable and fun to read, and yet Coe is harsher on her subject than the small army of male historians who’ve written thousand-page tomes on the first president before her.
Coe doesn’t back away from the ugliest parts of humanity in her reconsideration of Washington. There are stark reminders on nearly every page of the book that Washington was a slave owner who was complicit in the genocide of Native Americans. “Historians all work in the same archives and we see the same material,” says Coe. “Why in previous Washington biographies do we hear that he was a slave master and we hear about the number of people he owned, but it’s all to serve this final beautiful moment in which he emancipates his slave? None of that is true.”
Coe is determined to share the details: that Washington once slapped a slave for not being able to singlehandedly move a tree. That he told his overseers not to beat slaves not out of the kindness of his heart, but because it behooved him to have his slaves in good physical condition. “The figurehead of American liberty was never far from a representation of its (and his own) deep-seated hypocrisy,” writes Coe in You Never Forget Your First…
The juxtaposition of great men and their evil deeds is relevant for how we talk about the Founding Fathers as a whole. Their intentions are invoked so often in modern discourse, but they’re portrayed as people who only did great things or only bad things because they didn’t know better, as if they were victims of the time they lived in. “If we understand that Washington was a man who sometimes did great things and sometimes did awful things and we have actual examples, he becomes a real person to us,” says Coe. “We’re happy that he did something at one moment and then we’re really mad at him at the next.” If we look at all of the Founding Fathers that way we’d have a good reminder that the men who created this country were not perfect.
[She] also delves into the quirkier side of male historians’ coverage of Washington, most notably in their weirdly sexualized descriptions of his strong thighs. Coe calls these men “thigh men” because they’re obsessed with Washington’s masculinity. “They talk about his thighs in highly sexual ways that seem inappropriate for a biographer. They’re really hot for him,” Coe points out. “So they would talk about size a lot and then they were talking about the size of his hands and you would think it was a joke but they’re being serious…”

Because of the non-stop jewish kvetching and hand wringing over last year’s parade, the annual carnival in Aalst, Belgium is expected to go as planned on Sunday, with even more antisemitic elements than in previous years:
Aalst’s organizers have sold hundreds of “rabbi kits” for carnival revelers, which take an active part in its parade, to dress up as hassids, which include oversize noses, payot and black hats. This is in addition to the plan to bring back floats similar to the one displayed in 2019, featuring oversized dolls of Jews with rats on their shoulders, holding money.
Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz said on Thursday that “Belgium as a Western democracy should be ashamed to allow such a vitriolic antisemitic display. I call upon the authorities there to condemn and ban this hateful parade in Aalst.”
Ambassador to Belgium Emmanuel Nahshon has been outspoken against the parade, and told The Jerusalem Post that “it is a great pity that such an antisemitic carnival is allowed. Aalst is the only city in Europe where such a carnival is allowed.”
“We call upon Belgian authorities, including city authorities of Aalst, to change their mind,” Nahshon said. “We still have [time] until the carnival and hope reason will prevail and the antisemitic floats will be taken away.”
If the parade goes as planned, “it will be a moral blot on Belgium,” he added.
“The fight against antisemitism is also an Israeli fight. Israel has to be very clear on the issue,” Nahshon said.
The Aalst carnival lost its place on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in late 2019, after the Belgian city’s mayor refused to remove antisemitic imagery from the parade.
This year’s parade is expected to specifically target Jews for mockery because of the controversy and loss of their UNESCO status.
The carnival has long been a site of bigoted displays in general – including participants in blackface and displays mocking Muslims – and usually of specifically antisemitic imagery. In 2013, JTA reported, carnival revelers in Nazi uniforms held canisters labeled “Zyklon B” while walking with other participants dressed as concentration camp prisoners.
While several Belgian officials have spoken out against the parade, no government action has been taken against it. One reason for this is the rise of Vlaams Belang, a far-right populist party with neo-Nazi roots, and a concern that banning the antisemitic floats will play into their hands…
Though Belgium has a large Jewish community, it is not planning any organized demonstrations against the carnival, with one source saying they are worried about calling negative attention to themselves and possibly provoking violence by going against the dominant culture.
In addition, a legal fight against the parade would be a challenge, because according to Belgian law, one can only be indicted for racial incitement if he or she targeted and harmed a specific person.
Earlier this week, three Belgian professors who are experts in antisemitism, Vivian Liska, Didier Pollefeyt and Klaas Smelik, called in a much-quoted op-ed in De Morgen for the media not to display the antisemitic images from the parade in the media.
“We do not want to commit censorship, but we do want to point out the danger of spreading this type of anti-Jewish caricature,” Smelik said on Belgium’s Radio 1. “in the past, it has become apparent what kind of influence they can have on the opinions of ordinary people.”
…In December, Aalst Mayor Christoph D’Haese of the Flemish nationalist N-VA Party argued in December that the parade mocks many different groups and should not be censored.

“A recent survey by the Anti-Defamation League found that nearly a quarter of Americans believe American Jews are more loyal to Israel than to the United States, [but based] on my experience teaching at half a dozen Jewish day schools over the past twelve years, I am shocked that the figure is so low:
Imagine being a non-Jewish employee at one of these schools in New York City, maybe a security guard or a special-education teacher’s aide. You walk into the building and see Israeli flags hanging all over the place. Lessons are delivered in Hebrew — often at the obvious expense of student comprehension. Children sing HaTikvah in the morning with enforced gusto. Israeli soldiers regularly address the student body. Children wear kippot and hoodies emblazoned with the logo of the Israel Defense Forces.
Zionism is messaged in these schools as the most essential attribute of our students’ identity. It’s a huge problem.
I’ve heard teachers or administrators say at assemblies things like “you don’t belong in America,” “Israel is your country” and “the IDF are your soldiers.” When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the United States Congress in opposition to the Iran nuclear deal, against the wishes of President Obama, the high school where I was working cancelled classes to watch “our Prime Minister.” That’s a real quote.
In the six schools at which I have taught, HaTikvah was sung more often than the Pledge of Allegiance or the Star Spangled Banner. Israeli national holidays are taught with a reverence or solemnity that outstrips what is accorded to religious or American ones. Veteran’s Day was never discussed, but Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, had special projects and assemblies. Many of these schools receive grants from the Avi Chai Foundation, which requires recipients to declare that they “seek to instill in our students an attachment to the State of Israel and its people.”
Are we really to blame non-Jewish staff if they leave campuses thinking that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than to the United States? Perhaps we tell ourselves that they just don’t understand the incredible, mystical, nuance that underpins the relationship between Judaism and Zionism. That while it sometimes looks like we’re supporting a foreign government, it’s really about our hopes, dreams and historical identity.
But that’s not what I’ve experienced. The jingoism around Israel and its military goes beyond any possible doctrinal link between Judaism and Zionism. There is no similar enthusiasm for the Torah in these schools. On the contrary, there was an understanding at all the schools in which I have taught that we don’t push religion, that we must teach about religion in a detached way. So while we may teach what the Torah says, we are pretty much forbidden from actually saying the key point — that “as Jews we have to do what the Torah says.” It’s like a very lame, extremely limited, comparative religion class. But when discussing Israel and Zionism, there is rarely room for leniency, disagreement, or apathy.
Many Jewish leaders were outraged last summer when President Trump suggested that Jews who vote for Democrats showed “great disloyalty”, presumably to Israel, raising an old anti-Semitic trope about American Jews’ fealty to the United States. But anyone who has witnessed daily life at a Jewish day school and thinks that accusations of dual loyalty are anti-Semitic is either spiteful or idiotic.
Of course, some saw this coming. After the founding of the state of Israel, the 1950 Blaustein-Ben Gurion agreement demanded that Israel not claim the loyalty of Diaspora Jews since such loyalty would jeopardize the Diaspora communities.
Now, more than 70 years into Israel’s existence, we are at a disadvantage regarding old questions of loyalty. The question is whether we are being wise in how we combat these suspicions. If our loyalty really is — as it must be — to the United States, then it is time to think about how we show it. We’re really not being at all clear about it in our Jewish day schools. Until this is addressed in a meaningful way, we are in no position to feign shock at how it is perceived.
Anti-Defamation League smears anyone as an ‘antisemite’ who dares claim Jews have dual loyalties with Israel, but don’t expect them to go after this jewish teacher, who can prove it, any time soon.
