Why patriots didn't act sooner?

Because we had to get well into the 16-year destruction scheme in order to be able to demonstrate to the American people how bad it really was. Acting sooner would have simply provoked anger and hostility from those who believed the koolaid and thought Hussein was their "hope & change" savior.
