Egypt's ousted president Hosni Mubarak has died, state TV has announced.The autocrat's failing health following recent surgery had been detailed by his son Alaa on social media.
Only friends and family will be permitted at his funeral, Arab media has said.
The autocrat ruled Egypt for 30 years before he was removed from power by the military in 2011 following a wave of mass protests during the Arab Spring.
The ex-president was held in custody for six years as the former leader and his sons Alaa and Gamal stood trial over the deaths of anti-government protesters.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 but was allowed to walk free after an appeals court dismissed the charges against him in 2017.
Almost 900 protesters were killed in Cairo during the mass street protests in 2011.
