Saw a vid from 2015 that I couldn't dl with a Chinese female scientist discussing a genetic manipulation of a common coronavirus with the SARS virus to make both a more deadly virus but also the treatment for it so I would assume it was patented in China in 2015 but don't know when the "novel-coronavirus" was patented in the States…however, noting the fancy 'easier for the media to identify/obfuscate' name of 'COVID-19' only occurred a day or so ago and thus a search through patent databases for 'COVID-19' turned up nothing but a search for coronoavirus shows that as early as April 6, 2004, a patent being taken out for 2 different treatments for coronavirus (page 178 on the pdf dl from the USPTO) https://www.uspto.gov/web/trademarks/tmog/20040406_OG.pdf

But I also noticed in the USPTO section that was amended 2-2020, that there is now a classification for:

C12Y 304/22069 . . SARS coronavirus main proteinase (3.4.22.69)

It is in the section of the USPTO showing:
