Bloomingdale was born to a wealthy Jewish family on April 15, 1916 in New York City, the son of Rosalind (née Schiffer) and Hiram Bloomingdale,[2][3] and the grandson of Lyman G. Bloomingdale, a co-founder of the famous department store Bloomingdales.

Many years ago, I remember reading an article in New York Magazine about him, it showed a photo of him on his boat with his daughter, and it stated that it was well known among his circle that he had a sexual relationship with his daughter for a long time.
