yesterday is a holy day in the Catholic Calendar. All Catholics go to a service. It's well known. It's called 'Ash Wendesday'. Pagans know of this day because of another day called 'Fat Tuesday'.
at the service, within a catholic church or cathedral, during the survice, the parishoners all line up and proceed to the front where a priest or decon will smudge a cross of ash and say something to the effect of 'from dust you come to dust you will return' and smudge a cross on the forehead of everyone participating.
