9/11 Grand Jury, FBI Lawsuits Enter New Phase

Mick Harrison and John O’Kelly of the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry discuss the latest developments in two major cases: the petition for a federal grand jury investigation, which the Lawyers’ Committee first filed in April 2018, and the FBI 9/11 Review Commission lawsuit filed last March.

The Lawyers’ Committee and its co-plaintiffs are at critical junctures in both cases. In the former, they are about to enter a legal battle with U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman over whether he is required to disclose some information regarding his office’s handling of the grand jury petition and over his statutory duty to present that petition to a special grand jury. In the latter, they will soon be filing an appeal of the Washington, D.C., District Court’s recent ruling that the plaintiffs — including 9/11 family member Bob McIlvaine — lack standing to bring the FBI lawsuit.

Coronavirus Infects Patient for Second Time, Prompting New Fears

A woman who was working as a tour bus guide was reinfected with the COVID-19 coronavirus, testing positive after having recovered from a prior infection, said a local government agency in Japan.

Osaka’s prefectural government confirmed that a woman in her 40s, who tested positive twice, was a resident in Osaka. She tested positive Wednesday after developing chest pains and a sore throat, the government told public broadcaster NHK.

She had first tested positive in late January and was released from the hospital on Feb. 1 and was declared coronavirus-free on Feb. 6, the government said.

However, officials said she started feeling chest pain and throat pain on Feb. 19. After going to the doctor several times, she tested positive again about a week later
