Conservative Lord to Boris: Stand Up to ‘Militant Transgender Fascist Lobby’

David John Maclean, Baron Blencathra, has urged Boris Johnson to “stand up to the small, militant, transgender fascist lobby” and for “the rights of 32 million real women” in a House of Lords debate.

Lord Blencathra, who served as a government whip under the late prime minister Margaret Thatcher and as a Minister of State under her successor John Major, urged the current Conservative Party leader to take a stand in a parliamentary debate on whether the government should act to ensure “at least half of the communal changing or toilet facilities offered in public buildings are reserved for women only.”

The 66-year-old life peer told the Upper House his “blunt message to the Government… is this: when will you stand up to the small, militant, transgender fascist lobby and say that the rights of 32 million real women and 800,000 wheelchair users are more important than the rights of tens of thousands who identify as transgender?”

As a wheelchair user himself, Lord Blencathra said he was perturbed by what he sees as an inordinate focus on providing facilities for people who identify with the opposite sex, even to the detriment of the safety of biological women and girls, while there are still “over 70,000 public buildings in the UK that wheelchair users cannot get into, let alone have the luxury of deciding which toilet to use.”

“As every doctor and even first-year medical student knows, there are only two biological sexes, male and female, with a tiny number of people who are known as genuine hermaphrodites, male pseudo-hermaphrodites or female pseudo-hermaphrodites,” Blencathra insisted.

He added that while genuinely intersex persons “deserves respect and support”, sex is “biological and binary and is not a social construct.”

The peer said he did accept that people who identify with the opposite sex should be able to change their gender following a medical diagnosis and supervised transition, but that the government must not “permit the absurdity of self-identification, with the huge loss in freedom and safety for women that that would entail.”

“I say ‘absurdity’ but it is more of an obscenity, because we have the reality, as seen in Answers to Parliamentary Questions tabled by me, of male rapist convicts suddenly telling the Prison Service that they are identifying as women and our useless, incompetent, politically correct Prison Service immediately transferring them to female prison wings where they have raped and sexually assaulted real women prisoners,” he claimed.

“What a wonderful sexual predators’ charter.”

Slovenia: Ally of Viktor Orban Becomes Prime Minister In Melania’s Homeland

Anti-mass migration Slovenian Democratic Party leader Janez Jansa, a close ally of Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban, has been appointed Slovenia’s new prime minister.

The President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, appointed Jansa as Prime Minister this week following a coalition deal between his party and three other parties in the Slovenian parliament, La Liberté reports.

The appointment of Jansa comes following the collapse of the previous centre-left coalition government under Marjan Sarec, who resigned in January.

Mr Jansa’s Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) had come first in the last national election in 2018 but had not managed to secure enough coalition partners to form a government.

The new government is expected to tighten border controls, reform the country’s asylum policy, and eventually reintroduce six months of mandatory military service.

The vote to confirm the appointment of Mr Jansa is expected to take place in the Slovenian parliament next week, with a full list of government ministers expected later in March.

The appointment of an anti-mass migration leader comes as the Balkan migration route has begun to see a surge in activity in recent months.

Just under two weeks ago, Bosnian security minister Fahrudin Radoncic warned that as many as 100,000 migrants could be heading from Greece into Western Europe in the coming weeks.

Radoncic added that the border of Bosnia would not be able to handle such a large influx noting that the country did not have the manpower to guard the entire border.

Greece has also warned that up to 100,000 migrants could enter their country from the Middle East by the end of this year.

“The crisis is current and it is serious,” said Manos Logothetis, the Greek government commissioner for the initial reception of refugees.

These warnings have now taken on an even more urgent character, with the Turkish government having reportedly moved to open its border with Syria and permit unhindered passage to Europe — even as coronavirus cases are rising across the Middle East.

LIVE UPDATES FROM LONDON: ASSANGE EXTRADITION HEARING ADJOURNED UNTIL MAY 18

THURSDAY

11:30 pm London time: The judge has adjourned the hearings a day earlier than planned. It will resume in Woolwich Crown Court on May 18.

The defense this week seriously undermined the prosecutors’ case that Assange had endangered lives of informants, had “solicited” classified material from Chelsea Manning, and had helped Manning crack a password to enter a government computer. The defense showed Manning had legal access to the database and did not need a user name or password. Assange was helping her download video games and movies forbidden to U.S. soldiers.

The defense also laid out its evidence that Assange actually worked to protect informants; and that Manning had not responded to WikiLeaks‘ solicitations, a charge that ignores that asking sources for classified information is a routine journalistic practice.

The last two days of the hearings were consumed by the question of whether Assange was being accused of political offenses, and whether the British-U.S. extradition treaty or British domestic law on extraditions would apply. The question of whether Assange was being given a fair trial also arose, given that he is cut off from communication with his attorneys during the proceedings, while being locked in a glass cage behind them.

Netanyahu, Trump, and Kushner Named in 'War Crimes' Lawsuit Filed by Palestinians in US Court

The suit claims that the behavior of U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a "violation of the Nuremberg principles."

A Washington attorney on Tuesday filed suit against U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Ambassador David Friedman, White House advisor Jared Kushner, and others for their involvement in "the denationalization and dehumanization of the Palestinian population" in occupied Palestine.

The 175-page suit (pdf), filed on behalf of a group of Palestinians and Americans, claims that the actions of the defendants, most of whom are U.S. and Israeli officials, "have aided and abetted the commission of numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity."

Attorney Martin F. McMahon in the lawsuit describes a long strategy to disenfranchise the Palestinian people by using the levers of power in the federal government, state governments like New York, and groups like AIPAC to deaden criticism of the Israeli regime's treatment of the Palestinian people.

"If AIPAC was active during the colonial days," writes McMahon, "patriot Tom Payne would have been hanged for advocating independence for the colonies."

Americans should not find the actions of the Israeli government too alien, McMahon says, because the treatment of the Palestinians is analogous to the behavior of U.S. empire:

For most Americans, the concepts relied upon by the Palestinian Plaintiffs in this case (i.e. ethnic cleansing, genocide, denationalization, and dehumanization) are foreign concepts not part of normal American vernacular. However, these concepts are as American as apple pie. The indigenous American Indian population and the African slaves brought to America have been victimized by these identical war crimes. Each group has been subject to ethnic cleansing, genocide, expropriation of private property, confinement to reservations and ghettos, wholesale denial of their fundamental freedoms, subjected to a biased criminal justice system, and deemed to be irrelevant and disenfranchised members of American society.

McMahon has in the past sued other foreign governments and entities in federal court. In 2019, the lawyer brought a $1 billion suit against Israeli settlers and their American backers to the D.C. District Court. Earlier in February, McMahon filed suit against Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar on behalf of families killed by Haftar's militias.

VP Pence: Trump admin is ‘defunding Planned Parenthood’

'You’ve got these Democrats with the crummiest ideas in politics. They’re all smashing into each other … But I think we all know how this is going to end.'

February 27, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — The Trump administration is “defunding” Planned Parenthood ahead of a 2020 presidential election that shapes up as a fight between freedom and socialism, Vice President Mike Pence told the nation's largest gathering of conservatives today.

Pence told the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that he was proud to serve under “a president who stands without apology for the sanctity of human life” (see minute 21:15 of video below for remarks).

After noting that President Donald Trump “made history by becoming the first president to attend the March for Life last month on the National Mall,” Pence then explained some of the ways in which Trump has reduced funding to abortion businesses.

“He signed legislation to make it possible for every state to deny Title X funding to abortion providers,” he said “And just this week the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld President Trump’s executive order denying taxpayer funding to family planning clinics that make referrals for abortion. We are defunding Planned Parenthood.”

Pence also said that “in support of the rule of law,” Trump has kept his word to conservatives by appointing “more than 190 conservatives to our federal courts at our every level, including Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh.”

Speaking of those appointments, Pence said, “I’ve gotten to know a lot of these incredible men and women and I can assure you that they are all principled jurists who will uphold the God-given liberties enshrined in our constitution, like the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

Pence took aim at the position of Democrat politicians on life issues, referencing the failure of the Senate to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

This was “a week when Democrats in the United States Senate actually voted down a bill that would have extended legal protections to babies that survive abortions.”

Pence then told pro-life Democrats that they “have a home in today’s Republican Party.”

“Life is winning in America,” he said, “and that’s what makes it so remarkable that every leading Democrat running for president has actually said that there’s no room in today’s Democratic party for pro-life voters.”

“So let me say to every pro-life American, Republican, Independent, or Democrat – you have a home in today’s Republican party. President Donald Trump is the most pro-life president in American history.”

In the second half of his speech, Pence mocked the current Democrat presidential hopefuls, describing the most recent Democratic primary debate as a “demolition derby.”

“I mean think about it,” he said, “now you’ve got these Democrats with the crummiest ideas in politics. They’re all smashing into each other and eventually there’ll be one left driving. But I think we all know how this is going to end. There’s going to be a monster truck with a big ‘T’ on the hood that’s going to drive into the infield and roll right over it! It’s going to happen.”

Becoming serious again, Pence said that “the truth is today’s Democratic Party has been taken over by radical leftists, who want higher taxes, open borders, and late-terms abortions.”

Britain bought a record amount of Russian gold last year, spending over $5 BILLION

Sales of Russian gold abroad jumped eight-fold last year to $5.7 billion, with almost all of that volume purchased by the United Kingdom.

According to customs data seen by RBC business news outlet, gold exports to Britain have grown more than 12 times in terms of value, to $5.33 billion.

Supplies to the UK accounted for 93 percent of all Russian gold exports. Twelve other countries, including Kazakhstan and Switzerland, bought only $409 million-worth of Russian gold.

In physical terms, gold exports from Russia to the United Kingdom in 2019 increased 11 times, from 10.4 tons to 113.5 tons.

Almost the entire volume of deliveries to the UK is gold bullion. Taking into the account the London standard (an ingot weighing about 12.5 kg), it turns out that Russia delivered at least 9,000 ingots to the UK last year.

In addition to gold, Russia also increased the export of platinum (doubled to $936 million) and silver (2.5 times, to $100 million) to the UK.

Experts say that, in general, the scale of gold inflows to the United Kingdom most likely reflects global trends in demand for the precious metal and the country's traditional role as a center for its trade and storage.

According to Oleg Shibanov, a professor of finance at the New Economic School in Russia, there was certainly a Brexit factor which could affect British investors, along with “many other uncertainties,” such as the US-China trade war.

Russia has continued filling its coffers with gold, having added almost seven tons of the precious metal to its reserves in January. The country’s total gold holdings amounted to 73.2 million troy ounces (2,276.8 tons) as of February 1, and are worth around $116 billion, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Russia.

This 1990s LSD Lab Built Inside An Underground Missile Silo Gave Us The World's Acid

From the outside, it's just a slate gray, Cold War–era missile silo, but the inside is a different story. No one can agree on exactly what happened on there, but we know it involved the manufacture of a lot of mind-altering substances. From the late 1990s to fall 2000, Leonard Pickard and Gordon Todd Skinner used the silo as an LSD lab that supposedly produced much of the world's supply of the drug. If they'd kept their cool, Skinner and Pickard would probably still be producing LSD today.

Believe it or not, the military didn't anticipate people making LSD in their silo

Source: Atlas Obscura

Built in 1961, this Topeka-area silo was a part of the Air Force's missile defense system until it was decommissioned in 1965. No one in Kansas wanted to take over such a hefty chunk of real estate, so it just sat empty until the '90s, when it was purchased by the heir to a spring fortune: Gordon Todd Skinner.

Before he became half of a midwestern cartel, Skinner bounced around various universities while bouncing around various scams: fake money orders, cashing checks with fraudulent ID, that sort of thing. He was briefly an FBI informant in 1984, helping to bring down cocaine trafficker Boris Olarte in Oklahoma. Nearly a decade later, he made a $40,000 down payment for the decommissioned missile base in Wamego, Kansas. The entire payment was in traveler's checks. He quickly got down to business, outfitting the silo with leather couches, multiple showers, and a killer sound system.

Leonard Pickard was a genuinely talented chemist

New IG report: Sanctuary policies place massive strain on ICE resources, put public at risk; over 17,000 illegals still at large

A recent Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General report found that sanctuary jurisdictions not only put considerable strains on federal immigration enforcement resources and have also resulted in over 17,000 illegal aliens who were still at large as of last year.

The report, which the department's inspector general released earlier this month, evaluated the difficulties that ICE's Criminal Alien Program, or CAP, faces as a result of having to deal with "uncooperative jurisdictions" that try to shield illegal immigrants from enforcement.

"ICE's inability to detain aliens identified through CAP who are located in uncooperative jurisdictions, results in increased risk those aliens will commit more crimes," the report found. "Furthermore, having to arrest 'at-large' aliens may put officer, detainee, and public safety at risk and strains ICE's staffing resources."

According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's website, CAP provides the enforcement agency "direction and support in the biometric and biographic identification, arrest, and removal of priority aliens who are incarcerated within federal, state, and local prisons and jails, as well as at-large criminal aliens that have circumvented identification."

When ICE finds out that an illegal alien is in law enforcement custody on criminal charges, it will issue a detainer request asking that local law enforcement agency notify ICE of the individual's expected release and to hold onto said individual until federal immigration agents can take him or her in for removal proceedings.

However, many sanctuary jurisdictions do not honor such requests to varying degrees and instead release removable aliens without notifying ICE, which forces the agency to conduct at-large arrest operations as a result.

"In such cases, ICE officers must investigate to determine each alien's location and then make arrests in communities rather than in more secure and safe environments such as in jails or prisons," the audit report noted. "Moving arrests from secure, controlled locations (jails) to unknown environments (homes, workplaces, or the public) places heavy demand on ICE personnel and increases safety risks for officers, arrestees, and local communities. Arresting violent offenders at large requires even more resources to ensure officer safety."

In addition, the report also showed that the number of ignored immigration detainers has consistently gone up during the Trump administration. In fiscal year 2017, the report said, law enforcement agencies ignored 7,565 ICE detainers. That number spiked to 15,451 in FY 2018 and increased still to 16,396 during FY 2019.

The report concluded that "ICE does not have sufficient resources" to fully address the enforcement challenges posed by sanctuary jurisdictions refusing its detainer requests, which means that thousands of removable aliens have slipped through the cracks as a result.

"Of the 58,900 declined detainers between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2019, ICE arrested about 70 percent of those aliens," the report said "As of September 30, 2019, the remaining 17,700 remained at-large."

ICE's acting chief Matthew Albence hailed the audit's findings, saying that they back up the administration's point about the dangers of sanctuary policies.

"This report further confirms what we have said for years: our communities are safer when law enforcement works together to take criminal aliens off the streets," Albence said in a prepared statement on Tuesday. He added that at-large arrest "efforts require significantly more time and resources, and worst of all, while we're still out looking for these criminals, many of these criminals commit further crimes, further victimizing the very communities these uncooperative jurisdictions are purporting to protect."

The report also suggested that the number of illegal aliens in the United States could be much higher than the government has previously estimated. While noting a 2015 DHS estimation of 12 million, the report points to a 2018 academic study that placed the estimation at 22.1 million.

Outrageous New York Times Piece Calls for Coronavirus To Be Named After Trump

It never fails. No matter what is happening in the world, liberals are going to find a way to weaponize it against President Donald Trump.

Too many hurricanes? Too few hurricanes? Too much snow? Too little snow? Trump’s fault for pulling out of the Paris climate accord.

He is blamed for gas prices, the stock market (only when it is doing badly; otherwise it is Obama’s market) and now coronavirus, as an Op-Ed in the New York Times showed.

Writer Gail Collins ridiculed the president’s appointment of Vice President Mike Pence as the “Coronavirus Czar” and went on to mock several more members of the administration in her piece.

“Yeah, when you think of Mike Pence you maybe don’t think about Pandemic Fighter Supreme. But as President Trump pointed out repeatedly, he has already run Indiana,” Collins wrote.

“Well, it probably could have been worse. Having a czar does make you feel there’s somebody in charge. At least Trump didn’t come before the cameras and announce solemnly, ‘Today I’m asking every American to cross your fingers.’”

She went on to criticize the president for saying that the stock market skid could be due to investors’ fears that one of the lunatics in the Democratic presidential primary could become president.

This is likely not the reason for the skid and she is correct: It is likely the coronavirus fears that the media keeps pushing.

As Rush Limbaugh has said, the media sees this virus as an opportunity to use it as a weapon against Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Because the media, of which Collins is a part, realize that the American people tend to blame the American president for everything, even things that happen outside of our borders.

This is not something that has happened exclusively to Trump, but the media would be fighting the claims of presidential responsibility for something like this if the president were a Democrat.

“So the problems are the Democrats and the flu. The answers are Mike Pence and … reminding the public once again that Nancy Pelosi’s district has a big homeless problem,” she said.

Well, viruses and disease do tend to affect the homeless population more than others so, yeah, it should be a concern.

The fact is there is no decision the president could have made that would have met with the approval of Collins and her media cohorts.

They see the train wreck on the Democratic side, and they can see their chances of taking back the White House and the Senate and keeping the House are dwindling.

It is likely that their nominee is going to be socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont (unless they find a way to rob it from him again, in which case many of his supporters won’t vote).

Blaming the president for the coronavirus that originated in China could be the only shot they have left, if they can get enough people to believe it.

Turkey Set for Lone War as US Dismisses Idea of Reentry

Esper: I don't see any likelihood that we would be back

Turkey’s repeated escalations in Syria’s Idlib Province came at least in part with US officials endorsing them and the idea of confronting Russia. But as Turkey risks blowing this up into a whole new war, it’s a war that they’ll be fighting alone.

US officials are making clear they aren’t considering joining the war in any real way. Defense Secretary Mark Esper in particular said that “I don’t see any likelihood that we would be back along the border.“

There were few reasons to think the US would want to get sucked back into a war in Syria, particularly one against Russia. This is likely why Turkey, in the recent flare-up, was trying to play this up as a fight against the Assad government, and not Russia.

That makes sense, of course, because Turkey’s military is in a decent position to fight a one-on-one conflict with war-weary Syria over Idlib Province. Fighting Russia is something else entirely, especially with the US not interested in getting sucked in.

Erdogan’s bellicose threats against Syria, however, are going to make it difficult for his military to keep this conflict limited. To hear Erdogan tell it, he is willing to risk everything over Idlib, and that doesn’t sound nearly so good if they are at serious risk of a big, costly war.

New Smartphone App Lets You Monitor Internet Of Things Spying Devices

A new app lets you see cameras, Bluetooth beacons and smart speakers around you and help you opt out of data collection.

With an increase of surveillance like real-time facial recognition technology throughout the city of London, and the U.S. also implementing the tech among other biometrics in the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, as well as apps like Amazon’s Ring and smart devices, there needs to be a way to watch the watchers.

No matter where you look, Big Brother has been pushing the use of surveillance technology, not just the UK, from Amazon helping law enforcement with its Facial Rekogntion software, DHS wanting to use it for border control, to the Olympics wanting to use the tech for security.

Even retail is pushing for the technology as an anti-theft mechanism to be introduced in a thousands of stores using biometric facial recognition software from FaceFirst to build a database of shoplifters, as Activist Post reported.

Some of the biggest airports in the country — estimated at 16 airports across the U.S. — are now scanning us as we board international flights. While CBP expects to scale up the program to cover more than 97 percent of passengers flying outside of the U.S. by 2021, according to Nextgov.

The app made for IOS and Android, lets you know what Internet of things (IoT) technologies are operating around you and what data they’re collecting. The Internet of Things Assistant app and its infrastructure, created by Carnegie Mellon researchers, aims to give you more control over the devices tracking your activity and information.

With the app, you’ll be able to see devices like public cameras with facial recognition technology, Bluetooth beacons tracking your location at the mall, and your neighbor’s smart doorbell or smart speaker, according to a story published by Carnegie Mellon’s Security and Privacy Institute. You can see what data these devices collect, and access privacy choices like opting in and out of data collection when available.

“Our research has shown that most people have little awareness about the amount of data collected today by IoT technologies,” Norman Sadeh, a CyLab faculty member in Carnegie Mellon’s Institute for Software Research, told CNET. “It also shows that many people would like to be better informed about the collection and use of their data by these technologies, especially in contexts where they don’t expect this to happen. In addition, many of them would like the option to possibly opt in or out of some practices.”

According to the report, the app has more than 30,000 IoT resources registered, Sadeh told CNET. “We expect to have hundreds of thousands of resources by the end of next month — some registered by individual users, and many entered by our team,” he added. “Over time we expect to rely more on individuals to populate our registries, but we understand the initial onus is on us to make this valuable enough.”

In Video: Turkish Military Launches Heavy Rockets At Syrian Army Positions

On February 28, Turkish sources shared a video showing a T-300 Kasırga heavy multiple rocket launcher (MRL) launching several rockets from southern Turkey at Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in northern Syria.

Syrian opposition activists claimed that the rocket strike targeted a large camp of the army near the town of Jurin in the northwestern Hama countryside.

This was not apparently the first attack by Turkish T-300 MRLs. According to the activists, the MRLs launched a day earlier a salvo of rockets at SAA positions in Aleppo and Lattakia. The attack was reportedly a response a series of Syrian airstrikes on southern Idlib, in which 33 Turkish soldiers were killed.

The Turkish Armed Forces deployed several T-300 Kasırga MRLs in the southern Turkish province of Hatay last week.

Developed by Turkeys defense giant ROKETSAN, the T-300 is based on Chinese WS-1B with some modifications. The heavy rocket launcher is meant to provide the Turkish Armed Force with long range fire support. Each T-300 MRL can be armed with up to four 302 mm rockets, with ranges exceeding 100 km.

The use of such heavy weapons by the Turkish military could lead to more escalation with Russia and the Damascus government.

Turkey Has Fought Russia 16 Times In The Past, Will Do It Again If Need Be: Erdogan Foreign Affairs Advisor

On February 28th, Mesut Hakki Casin, an adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey had “fought Russia 16 times in the past, we will do it again.”

Mesut Hakki Casin, a professor at Istanbul’s Yeditepe University and a member of the foreign affairs board that advises Erdogan, said 25 million Muslims live in Russia.

He said Russia will be “dismembered from within,” according to a tweet posted by Ahva

Russia is sending two warships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles to the Mediterranean Sea toward the Syrian coast amid mounting tensions between Russia, Turkey and Syria over the Syrian province of Idlib, the Russian Navy said on February 28th.

Turkey has sent thousands of troops and military hardware into Syria as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned of a full-scale offensive unless Russia-backed Syrian forces pulled back from Turkish observation posts in the region.

Regardless, below is a dissection of the claim by Casin, and a review of the past Russian-Turkish wars and how they went. Officially there’s been 12 wars between Russia and the Ottoman Empire/Turkey since the 16th century.

First Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1568-1570 and ended in Russian victory;

Second Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1676-1681 and ended in an undecided victory, but Turkish expansionism was put on hold, so it could be deemed that Russia got the upper hand in the end;

Third Russo-Turkish War, which is a subset of the Great Turkish War: took place between 1686-1700 and ended in Habsburg, Polish-Lithuanian, Russian, and Venetian victory;

Fourth Russo–Turkish War: took place between 1710-11 and ended in Ottoman victory;

Fifth Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1735-39 and ended in an undecided state, with both the Ottoman and Russia receiving some concession as a result;

Sixth Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1768-74, ended in Russian victory;

Seventh Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1787-92 and ended in Russian victory;

Eighth Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1806-12 and ended in Russian victory;

Ninth Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1828-29 and ended in Russian victory;

Crimean War: took place between 1853-56 and ended in victory for the Ottoman, British, French and Piedmontese;

Tenth Russo-Turkish War: took place between 1877-78 and ended in Russian and allied victory;

World War I: between 1914-18 and ended in German, Austro-Hungarian, and Ottoman victory against Russia (not as victors of the war itself). It is deemed as a victory for the side that officially lost in World War I specifically because of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, signed on March 3rd 1918 and then subsequently the Treaty of Kars, signed on October 13th, 1921. Russian territory gained in 1878 was receded to the Ottoman Empire with the Treaty of Kars. Prior to that, in the Brest-Litovsk treaty, Russia ceded hegemony over the Baltic states to Germany; they were meant to become German vassal states under German princelings. Russia also ceded its province of Kars Oblast in the South Caucasus to the Ottoman Empire and recognized the independence of Ukraine. Thus, despite Germany and co. losing World War I, Russia left the war with a peace treaty prior to its end and made quite a few concessions.

In addition, there were strained relations during World War II and the Korean War, as well as throughout the Cold War.

But the record shows that, unless Turkey receives help from Britain and France, it is unlikely to come out on top in a possible conflict. And currently NATO appears rather wary of providing anything more than words of encouragement to Turkey in its antagonism of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces and Russia.

VA Secretary Under Investigation for Handling of Dismissed Hospital Sex Assault Claim

Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General Michael Missal has opened an investigation into allegations that VA Secretary Robert Wilkie sought to dig up dirt on a congressional staffer who filed a complaint of sexual assault at the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center. Her complaint was ultimately dismissed.

In a letter Thursday to congressional leaders, Missal said he is putting a "high priority" on the investigation into whether Wilkie attempted to discredit Navy Reserve Lt. Andrea Goldstein, who serves on the staff of House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Takano, D-California.

Missal's investigation, which could put Wilkie's job on the line, was first reported by The Washington Post. It follows an earlier clash with Wilkie over his claim that Goldstein's complaint of being assaulted last September was "unsubstantiated."

On Monday, six Democratic senators led by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, called on Missal to investigate published reports of a whistleblower's allegation that Wilkie had discussed with aides launching a smear campaign against Goldstein.

The senators' letter to Missal referred to a report earlier this month by ProPublica, the investigative journalism nonprofit, which said it had obtained the whistleblower's written complaint and also had information from a former senior official charging that Wilkie had sought dirt on Goldstein.

In a statement on the whistleblower's complaint, the House Veterans Affairs Committee said it had "received details from an individual with knowledge of decision making by senior VA leaders that shows they attempted to gather damaging information" on Goldstein.

In a response to ProPublica, Wilkie vehemently denied the charge. Wilkie, a colonel in the Air Force Reserves, said, "I never would do that to a fellow officer. It is a breach of honor."

At a Feb. 8 National Press Club news conference, Wilkie also denied that his abrupt firing of VA Deputy Secretary James Byrne, the No. 2 at the VA, was related to the Goldstein case. Wilkie was vague on the reasons for Byrne's dismissal but said it was "in the best interests of the organization."

Wilkie added at the time that he wanted to re-examine the Goldstein case to assure her that the VA is committed to creating a better environment for all female veterans at VA facilities.

"I have to know, Ms. Goldstein has to know, our women veterans have to know, our facilities are safe. We're going to make a renewed push to get answers," he said.

In a statement Friday in response to Missal's opening of an investigation, Christina Mandreucci, a VA spokeswoman, said that the "VA will cooperate fully, just as the department did with the initial investigation into the allegations regarding the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center."

"To be clear, the only investigation into Ms. Goldstein's allegations was that of the independent inspector general [Missal] and U.S. Attorney – an investigation Sec. Wilkie requested immediately upon learning of the allegations," according to the statement. "That investigation was closed with no charges filed, and neither the independent inspector general nor the U.S. Attorney has recommended any corrective or personnel actions, or general suggestions for improvement to VA."

In their Monday letter to Missal calling for an investigation, the senators said the allegations that Wilkie sought to "cast doubt" on Goldstein's complaint and "paint the individual as dishonest, and discredit her traumatic experience, demonstrates VA's continued inability to ensure women veterans are welcomed and supported by the country they have served."

The letter was signed by Murray and Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut; Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii; Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont; and Tammy Duckworth, D-Illinois.

PM met rabbi who reportedly recorded Gantz aide, day before tape emerged

Guy Havura led prayer for Netanyahu’s success in election; Gantz: Recording was cooked, premier ‘corrupted even the relationship of trust between a man and his rabbi’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally met a rabbi who is reported to have recorded an adviser to Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz calling him a potential “danger” to the people of Israel — a recording that ended up in the hands of the media a day after the two met.

The story made headlines Thursday after the recording of adviser Israel Bachar was aired by Channel 12, with Gantz later firing Bachar while claiming the man was “caught in a planned ambush.”

According to Hebrew media reports, Rabbi Guy Havura recorded Bachar making the comments about Gantz during a private consultation about his personal life.

Likud has said it did not receive the recording prior to its airing.

During Netanyahu’s meeting with Havura, the latter led attendants at a synagogue in a prayer for the prime minister to clinch 61 Knesset seats in next week’s election.

Channel 13 reported that Havura is friendly with Netanyahu’s lawyer, Amit Hadad, with the latter being a student of his.

White House chief of staff claims press covering coronavirus to take Trump down

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Friday downplayed the threat of the coronavirus but acknowledged likely school closures and disruptions to public transportation in the United States as a result of the outbreak.

He also accused the press of peddling a false narrative about the administration “scrambling” to contain the virus, saying he briefed Congress with other top health officials six weeks ago. He accused the media of ignoring the coronavirus until now because publications were too preoccupied with Trump’s impeachment before that, which he called a “hoax.”

“Why didn’t you hear about it?” Mulvaney told an audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Friday morning in a discussion with Stephen Moore, an economic expert at the Heritage Foundation. “The press was covering their hoax of the day because they thought it would bring down the president.”

Trump has similarly accused the media of stoking panic.

Mulvaney claimed that the press is only covering the virus now because they believe doing so will “take down the president.”

“Is it real? It absolutely is real,” Mulvaney said. “But you saw the president the other day — the flu is real.”

“Are you going to see some schools shut down? Probably. May you see impacts on public transportation? Sure,” Mulvaney said, adding, “We know how to handle this.”

Mulvaney’s remarks came as the Trump administration’s efforts to combat the virus are coming under increasing scrutiny. He argued that the administration is well-prepared while asserting that the virus is less severe than past illnesses because it has a lower fatality rate, describing it as less deadly than Ebola, SARS and MERS.

Mulvaney’s appearance at CPAC comes as President Trump has downplayed concerns about the virus, telling reporters at a news conference Wednesday that he didn’t believe the spread of the virus was inevitable.

The virus has been contained in the U.S. thus far, but health officials have said that its spread is likely. State and local officials may order school closures or otherwise limit public gatherings if the virus begins to spread communities.

The U.S. stock market has experienced sharp declines over the past week amid concerns about the virus, which originated in China and has spread quickly in other countries across the globe.

"What I might do to calm the markets is turn the television off for 24 hours,” Mulvaney told the crowd at CPAC Friday, mentioning a note he received from a reporter about what the administration’s plans were to ease concerns.

Trump on Wednesday tapped Vice President Pence to lead the government’s response efforts, and Pence has since tapped a career health official at the State Department, Debbie Birx, to coordinate those efforts.

“Congratulations and thank you to our great Vice President & all of the many professionals doing such a fine job at CDC & all other agencies on the Coronavirus situation,” Trump tweeted late Thursday. “Only a very small number in U.S., & China numbers look to be going down. All countries working well together!”

Judge Rules for Ghislaine Maxwell in Huge Setback to Victims and Boon to Epstein Accomplices

A federal judge in Manhattan has denied a media request to presume that the public should have access to an infamous and long-sought trove of documents related to dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In a terse four-page ruling, Judge Loretta Preska ruled against reporter Julie K. Brown and The Miami Herald in what’s sure to be seen as a slap in the face to the dozens of victims ensnared by Epstein’s elite pedophile ring over the course of several years.

“[Brown and the Herald‘s] argument is ostensibly that this unsealing process requires the Court to evaluate the Aristotelian essence of a document, i.e., to decide that certain documents are imbued with an inherent, free-floating power to influence judicial decision-making that makes them necessarily subject to the presumption of public access,” Preska wrote in a sharp and mocking decision.

“The Court has . . . already considered and rejected the exact contention [Brown and the Herald] advance here: that judicial documents can be categorized as such based on their abstract, generalized effect on judicial decisions rather than in the context of a decided motion,” the New York City judge continued. “That [Brown and the Herald] have found alternative dress for that position does not provide grounds for reconsideration.”

The Incompetent Sodomite Trump Just Put in Charge of ALL Intelligence Agencies

On the job training in the intelligence community

Here in the Land of Oz, otherwise known as Washington, one continues to run into people who should know better who insist that they have a friend in the White House who confirms that President Donald Trump is really a man of peace being obstructed as he seeks to withdraw the United States from senseless wars in Asia. They argue that the Deep State or Establishment, to include the media, are so blinded by Trump Derangement Syndrome that they cannot get behind his policies even when they would be good for Americans.

The problem with that argument is that there have been clear instances when the president could have followed through on pledges to reduce troop levels or withdraw completely from war zones before reversing himself and doubling down rather than doing the right thing. One need only cite the increases in numbers of combatants in both the Middle East and Afghanistan and the reversal of an initial decision to stage a complete withdrawal from Syria which instead turned into a move to occupy the country’s oil fields.

Others might argue that Trump reveals himself through his quixotic decision making and his willingness to play brinksmanship with powerful opponents as if he were upping the ante over a real estate transaction. Withdrawing with the JCPOA nuclear agreement with Iran was a major blunder, recognized as such by nearly every country in the world with the usual exception of Israel, while Trump’s repeated offers to talk with the Ayatollah reflect willful ignorance of Iranian political dynamics. The White House apparently considered the assassination of an Iranian Major General to be an inducement to the Persians to come to the table to discuss a broad range of disagreements.

To be sure, there has been a concerted effort to destroy the Trump administration which started even before it came into being, a conspiracy that has included a number of key players in the national security structure, to include the Directors of both CIA and the FBI. And Trump has a right to be angered by the ridiculous impeachment “process,” initiated by a Democratic Party that has still not figured out why the unspeakable Hillary Clinton lost in 2016.

But Donald Trump has also been his own worst enemy, playing into the hands of his critics, with his divisive tweets, his constant search for subversion within and outside his own party’s ranks, and his highly offensive language and demeanor. It is hard to imagine that anyone can take pleasure from such an overly-sensitive and essentially ignorant snake oil salesman actually being president of the United States, but there you have it.

Dow Index Drops 4 Percent As Financial Markets Continue to Plummet

The decline came on the heels of the worst drop of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in history, on Thursday when it lost 1,190 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 1,000 points on Friday, dropping 4 per cent on the back of traders' fears of coronavirus spread as it affects a growing number of countries.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 lost 3.7 per cent in early morning trade, while the Nasdaq suffered a decline of 3.5 per cent.

The tumble comes amid a major week-long sell-off, prompted by fears of the coronavirus epidemic.

The coronavirus disease was first reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December and has so far infected more than 83,700 people, resulting in the deaths of over 2,850 people. Over a third of the people who have contracted the disease have since been cured, including more than 3,770 individuals over the last 24 hours.

Earlier this day, Brent oil sank below $50 per barrel for the first time since December 2018. Oil quotes continue to fall amid demand risks caused by China's coronavirus. The disease continues to spread outside China prompting traders to fear that the disease may restrain economic growth, which will affect oil demand.

Beware of “Odorless” Cannabis – GMO Weed with Unknown Effects

A Canadian company called CannabCo Pharmaceutical Corp. seeks to be the first of such companies to produce fully genetically modified (GM) cannabis. Similar to the non-browning apple developed by Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc., CannabCo has developed a form of cannabis with technology which “greatly reduces” odor.

A number of users, and people that are around cannabis smokers, complain about the smell, especially in enclosed areas, condos and apartments, and this technology addresses those concerns. – CannabCo President Mark Pellicane

However, no trials have been conducted to determine whether smoking genetically modified cannabis causes any adverse effects on its user’s health. There have been no animal studies to date, and certainly no long-term studies on humans showing that the product is safe to use.

How would they know that? I mean, you couldn’t do a randomized placebo-controlled trial because people would taste the difference. – Peter Grinspoon, a doctor at Massachusetts General Hospital

In the same way that Monsanto introduced genetic engineering into the food supply in the 1990s, CannabCo is seeking to get their foot in the cannabis door with even less safety testing than Monsanto had to undergo.

Because of Monsanto and Scott’s Miracle Gro‘s “deep business partnership”, as reported by Big Buds Magazine, we know that a subsidiary company of Scott’s has been buying up cannabis growing companies as they prepare to enter the market.

They want to bypass hydroponics retail stores…When we said we won’t get in bed with them they said, ‘Well, we could just buy your whole company like we did with Gavita and do whatever we want.’ – Hydroponics Lighting Representative

CannabCo has stated that they reserve an exclusive right to sell the product, potentially driving out other businesses and even other strains as they grow market share. If they follow the same trend as GM corn and soy did in North America, biotech will ultimately achieve near-total control over cannabis and its growers.

Genetically engineered pot would be a “global first,” but there’s no reason to believe that the situation won’t end up exactly like it did with GM food. Nearly all of the natural biodiversity that now GM-dominant crops once held has depleted, resulting in mostly genetically indistinct corn and soy. If this happened to cannabis, it would mean less choice for the consumer and total corporate control over the growing process.

The United Nations warns that the diversity of cultivated crops declined by 75% during the 20th Century and a third of today’s crop diversity could disappear by 2050. The global plant breeding market is dominated by multinationals like Monsanto. They’re stealing Nature from us. – Michael Straumietis, founder and owner of hydroponics nutrients company Advanced Nutrients

Critics of genetic engineering often point out that Monsanto’s ‘terminator seeds’ remove the ability for farmers to save seeds, forcing them to purchase more from the supplier (Monsanto) each year, chemicals that only work with GM seeds have decimated the soil and are causing damage to the environment and our health, and biotech companies have bought off scientists and academics to push their pro-GM propaganda.

Is the convenience of ‘odorless’ weed worth it, even though the technology is patented and largely untested, or should we stick with natural products known to be safe?

Report: How George Soros infiltrated the EU Court of Human Rights

The European Court of Human Rights is being heavily influenced by organizations pressing for the “open society“ ideology promoted by George Soros

According to a ground-breaking report from European Centre for Law and Justice, a network of non-governmental organizations financed by George Soros have gained enormous influence in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), a court that essentially sets many of the laws related to gender, immigration and religion across Europe.

The report details how the objective for the ECHR is now to promote and enforce the “open society” ideology, which has been championed by billionaire financier George Soros.

According to the French magazine Valeurs Actuelles, Soros has become the master of “causing chaos in the world under the guise of altruism”.

The magazine details how nearly all the judges from the ECHR received funding at some point in their careers from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), which Soros has provided with €18 billion of his own money.

The effect on Europe has been enormous, with the magazine writing:

“Austria, Greece and Italy are forced to legalize same-sex unions; Poland is urged to promote the right to abortion; France is obliged to authorize the change of sex “on paper”; Hungary is forced to abolish life imprisonment; Russia is reprimanded for having condemned the Pussy Riot Punk feminist activists; Austria must legalize adoption by same-sex couples; sharia law in Greece is approved. Are all of these rulings unrelated? On the contrary. Each time, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) dictates its law to European countries.

Each time, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) dictates its law to a European country and each time, an NGO linked to the Open Society Foundations (OSF) network is involved in the case.”

Russia Blames Turkey For Its 33 Troops Killed Embedded With "Terrorists"; Turkey Vows To Escalate

"We have fought Russia 16 times in the past, and we will fight it again," Turkish adviser to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Mesut Hakki Casin, has warned after Thursday's dramatic escalation involving the deaths of some 33 Turkish soldiers in Idlib via airstrike, in the single deadliest day for Turkey in Syria throughout the entirety of the war.

NATO held an emergency meeting at Turkey's request, while the Trump administration has vaguely responded that the US "stands with Turkey", but it increasingly looks like Ankara will go it alone in terms of its adventurism inside Idlib, after NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg merely offered "condolences" and expressed "solidarity" with Turkey. Regardless, Turkey has vowed escalation, reports The Washington Post:

Turkey vowed Friday to escalate military actions in Syria’s Idlib province after 33 of its soldiers were killed in an airstrike it blamed on Syria, as the risk of a major military confrontation between Russia and Turkey in the region increased sharply.
