I personally participate in these exercises every year. It is called the Robin Sage.
The reason this is being advertised so much now is because some rookie cop was all keyed up and wanted to fire a weapon and he killed one of our solders.
These exercises take place in my "back yard" and everyone around sleeps nice and comfy hearing automatic weapons being fired in their back yard. In fact a lot of families will wait in the woods as spectators hoping to see the guys run through the woods and they always want to give them food.
Once again this is an every year event involving our badass military being dropped out of planes, having apaches clearing landing zones, blackhawks scooping up the guys and deuce and a halfs driving our boys around. It is quite fun and if you live in the area you can volunteer to be "the man in the black pajamas". The lieutenant will issue you an ak-47 and have you load clips with blanks and he will drop you off in places to "shoot" at the guys when they run by. You even have nightvision sometimes. The problem is every time I've tried to ambush them I never knew I was TOTALLY surrounded. I can tell you that when you think you have somebody and you hear a line of automatic weapons firing at you everywhere and you cannot see a single one of them will give you assurance that our military is filled with a bunch of badasses.
