Subject: Re: AbZ on Libya
It's getting interesting. UAE FM Abdullah bin Zayed (AbZ) just called.
[ REDACTED ]
AbZ asked my views. I said I didn't see why the TNC would accept Saif as heading a transitional authority. Right now, the TNC thinks time is on its side. Plus, Saif is indicted by the ICC and has said and reportedly done awful things.
[ REDACTED ]
I briefed AbZ on the Mohammed Ismail call to Wesley Clark on Saturday, noting that there were two things in common with his conversation: the focus on a future for Saif, and the seeming sense of urgency. AbZ agreed.
[ REDACTED ]
Things are moving.

Subject: Talk with Khatib
Hi from Crete. I called Abdul-Elah Khatib to compare notes on Libya in advance of our arrival where Chris Stevens [redacted] Much of what Khatib said has already been reported, from his talks with Gene Cretz and elsewhere.
[ REDACTED ]
Khatib asked me why I thought Q's forces weren't working harder to defend and recover Zawiyah. I said (accurately) that I truly didn't know. Khatib thought it may be because Q has pulled more forces back to prepare for the defense of Tripoli.
