The 2020 primary race is heading to South Carolina for the nation's First in the South nominating contest.

The South Carolina primary tests candidates' strength with black voters, who made up nearly two-thirds of the Democratic primary electorate in 2016.

The state also boasts a nearly-perfect track record; since Democrats in the state first used a primary in 1992, every winner except for one has gone on to win the Democratic nomination. The exception: Neighboring-state favorite John Edwards, who won South Carolina but ultimately lost the nod to John Kerry.

Trump calls coronavirus 'hysteria' the Democrats' 'new hoax'

President Trump said Friday that criticism from Democrats over his handling of the coronavirus epidemic sweeping the globe is “their new hoax.”

“This is their new hoax,” Trump told a rally in North Charleston, S.C., the evening before the Democrats’ presidential primary.

“A virus starts in China, bleeds its way into countries around the world, doesn’t spread into the United States because of the actions I took and the Democrats’ single talking point is that it’s Donald Trump’s fault,” he thundered.

Earlier in the day, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney called the coronavirus “the hoax of the day” in an appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in testimony before Congress, was asked by Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., whether he agreed with Mulvaney’s assessment.

“I’m not gonna comment on what others are saying,” Pompeo replied.

Trump, echoing an emerging Republican talking point, said Democrats “want us to fail so badly” in fighting the coronavirus. “They’re willing to hurt our country.” His son Donald Trump Jr. put it more bluntly in an appearance on Fox News Friday morning, saying Democrats were rooting for the coronavirus to “kill millions of people.”

Last year, lawmakers deferred the bill for a summer study.

The bill would keep Tennessee on Daylight Saving Time year-round.

But there is a change from last year’s version.

In the last version, the change would take effect when we go back to Daylight Saving this May.

But the new version would take effect whenever Congress approves letting states decide where they want to stay with Daylight Saving Time or not.

Police authorities in India have announced the arrest of hundreds following the worst anti-Muslim violence by Hindu nationalists that began on the eve of a state visit by US President Donald Trump, infamous for his anti-Muslim rhetoric and policies.

A police statement, however, came without elaborating on whether the detainees were perpetrators of deadly violence on mosques and ordinary Muslim residence or Muslims defending their homes against indiscriminate attacks by Hindu nationalists with little intervention by police officers and other government security forces.

SpaceX’s Starship SN1 prototype blows up during pressure test on its Texas pad

A prototype for SpaceX’s Starship super-rocket was destroyed tonight during a pressure test on its pad at the company’s South Texas facility.

•Streaming video from Boca Chica showed the silo-shaped tank assembly for the prototype known as Starship SN1 wreathed in light and vapor during the test, which was conducted with inert liquid nitrogen. At about 10 p.m. CT (8 p.m. PT), the tank popped. The structure imploded as flew into the air, then fell to the ground.

•Initial reports suggested that the tank suffered a structural failure during pressurization. Information about potential injuries or the extent of damage wasn’t immediately available, but we’ve reached out to SpaceX and will update this item with anything we hear.

•This prototype was designed only for initial rounds of tests. SpaceX plans to use future Starship prototypes for more ambitious tests that would build up to orbital flights. “Not much to worry about here,” Next Spaceflight’s Michael Baylor tweeted. “Test, fail, fix, test, fail, fix is SpaceX’s game. They will learn from it and get it right.”

German MPs sue Merkel govt. for complicity in US assassination of Gen. Soleimani

Eight German lawmakers from the country's Left Party have filed a criminal complaint against German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her government for complicity in US assassination of Iran's General Qassem Soleimani.

The complaint claims that the US Air force's Ramstein base in western Germany, believed to be used to control drones over Africa and the Middle East, was part of the operation that led to the general's assassination.

“The control signals for the drone attack can only have been transmitted via a satellite relay station on German territory, the US airbase in Ramstein,” MP Alexander Neu said in a statement.

“We cannot continue to accept that the federal government itself breaks international law by enabling and supporting the illegal US drone war,” Neu added.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The man slipped into the U.S from Tijuana, Mexico, and made it just 25 yards from the border before he was arrested.

A seven-month journey from Sri Lanka was over for Vijayakumar Thuraissigiam. Now he would be able to tell an American official why he had fled the place he had lived virtually his entire life: As a member of Sri Lanka’s Tamil minority, he had been beaten and threatened. He would seek asylum to remain in the United States.

His timing couldn’t have been worse.

His arrival coincided with the start of the Trump administration and its sustained effort to crack down on asylum-seekers. Officials rejected his claim in an initial screening and he was designated for rapid deportation, or expedited removal as federal law calls it.
