How is this any different than 2-dimensional electron gases (2DEG)? In grad. school all of my research was on 2DEGs (GaAs/AlGaAs). I haven't read the article but this phenomena isn't new.

This could just simply be a new way of forming room temperatures 2DEGs. The 2DEGs I used needed to be cooled down to liquid Helium levels (<4.2K).
