I could survive half-assed-comfortably for a month on 3 avg-size jars of peanut butter and 3 boxes of saltines. I think most people underestimate how long they could actually survive (not saying recipes we like) on food already in their house. Might be sipping on bottles of ranch dressing or ketchup some of those days, but I bet most people could make it 3-12 months on average size "already there" pantries (survive…not enjoy). Water is a different story, but humans can fast for days/weeks. Not saying this to dissuade prepping.
