Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord was an amazingly agile politician who somehow stayed on top through the French Revolution and into the Napoleon years. His political agility seems totally improbable. Some things of note besides his unbelievable ability to stay on top:
His coat of arms has a cape in the background with a Y motif on it (to look like ermine).
He was was in the United States during the time the young Prince Louis-Charles and heir was imprisoned. The prince supposedly died in 1795. Talleyrand returned to France in 1796.
He was a Priest and later Bishop who turned away from the church during the revolution.
He had no legitimate heirs but may have had bastards.
He sold his mansion to a Rothschild.
Was Talleyrand one of the main players in the cult during this period?
Who were his children? Does his line still exist?
Did he help the prince get to the United States and settled here, replacing him in the prison with a stand in?
