Second on the Notable, but did not have what boatfag was hoping for but did give a clue about voyage lasting "two weeks"
I checked it out, abstract is available but not much else without going through a few more links and then buying the article. The one clue I did pick up was the "two week" voyage time. If we go with 14 days travel to reach Seattle then we can start narrowing the ports down. Container ships are not fast, figure 17 knots (19.56 mph/31.48 km/h) as the cruising speed for most, limit it at 20 knots, we can get a idea of distance traveled. Right now I'm thinking Corinto, Nicaragua may be too far.
The abstract does not mention if the "stowaways" were from Asia or South America. Normal from Yantian or Shanghai to Los Angeles/Long Beach is indeed 14 days that I've seen. I have to try to figure out origin port for a northerly voyage to Seattle, where the doc that wrote the article is from, with a 14 day limit on travel time.
So far I've seen any transit from China to Los Angeles/Long Beach is 14 days on average. So two weeks fits for California but Seattle seems a little different. Keep in mind the ships going along the Pacific Coast tend to travel at different speeds than the big boys from a line like Maersk that is coming in from China. The article abstract never mentioned if the illegals were from Asia or South America.
Sadly I'm at the stage where I still have to look at them all while tracking some smaller ones doing Port Everglades/Miami/Tampa from Guatemala and Honduras.
I remember that one well. Uncle Sam almost kept the ship
