US Judge Demands Company Charged in Russiagate Present Subpoenaed Evidence in Person

A US federal judge has threatened to hold Concord Management, a Russian company indicted by former special counsel Robert Mueller, in civil contempt if it does not present subpoenaed company records in person.

On Monday, US District Judge Dabney Freidrich demanded that St. Petersburg-based Concord Management supply her Washington, DC, court with subpoenaed company records by sending someone tasked with record-keeping to deliver them from Russia in person. She rejected a sworn statement, Courthouse News reported.

Concord’s legal representative, attorney Eric Dubelier, adamantly rejected Freidrich’s suggestion that the defense was engaged in something “sneaky,” calling the US government’s position “a ridiculous argument.”

Meanwhile, federal prosecutors urged the judge to hold Concord in civil contempt in a Thursday court filing.

“We are starting to have some concerns about whether Concord is participating in this case,” US Attorney Adam Jed said in court on Monday. “It gives us pause … that they are just going to write something down and give it to the US government,” he said of the sworn statement.

Concord replied on Friday with its own filing arguing its case for not being held in civil contempt, accusing the US Department of Justice of showing a “manifest disregard of the record and controlling law.”

“The primary foundation for its demand - that Concord’s counsel did not thoroughly explain the bases for Concord’s responses to the subpoenas - not only is not found in any court order but this Court expressly rejected the notion that such an explanation could be required,” Dubelier argued in the filing. The attorney noted that no court order had ever required such an explanation.

“And here again, the government’s incredulity over the adequacy of the response, real or feigned, does not reveal a failure to respond, much less a violation of any court order related to such a response. Simply put, the basis for a contempt finding is a product of the government’s argument, not the relevant record,” he noted.

The trial is anticipated to begin next month, with the discovery process having dragged on for nearly two years as Concord lawyers challenged Mueller’s authority to charge the company, then urged the DoJ to hold Mueller and Attorney General William Barr in contempt for publishing the Mueller report.

In a highly unorthodox move, the DoJ has refused the sharing of discovery materials with the defense, arguing that since Concord is partially owned by Russian businessman Yevgeniy Prigozhin, doing so would help the Russian government react to US attempts to thwart alleged criminal activities. During discovery, the prosecution and defense typically share their positions and the evidence supporting them before the trial itself begins.

Concord is accused of conspiracy to defraud the United States by allegedly financing the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election because Prigozhin is allegedly tied to the Internet Research Agency (IRA), which the Office of the Director of National Intelligence claimed is the ‘troll farm’ behind the alleged interference. Along with Concord, Mueller indicted a dozen IRA employees in February 2018.

Schools Across US Find More Success With Yoga, Mindfulness Classes Than Detention, Punishment

An increasing number of schools across the country are introducing mindfulness practice and yoga classes to address student anxiety, tardiness, and disruptions. The alternative approach to school discipline seeks to address student misbehavior by addressing one of its root causes —namely, allowing students to ground themselves in their senses and calm their emotions.

Two such schools — Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School, both in Yellow Springs, Ohio — have already seen some success after introducing mindfulness practice to students as an alternative to detention, reports Yellow Springs News.

For half an hour every Monday following the end of the class day, students gather in Donna Haller’s classroom to sit on blankets and meditate, allowing themselves to calm down and concentrate on stillness, feeling present, and boosting their awareness of themselves and their classroom environments.

And on Wednesday, students at both schools can go to their shared library to take part in a yoga club.

According to Yellow Springs High School Principal Jack Hatert and Vice-Principal Cameron McKoy, the new disciplinary approach focusing on behavioral changes is far more effective than strictly punitive measures.

And as those of us who experienced detention back in K-12 schools know well, sitting alone at one’s desk for an hour after school hardly leads to personal reflection or changed behavior —a point that Principal Hatert is all too willing to stress.

For ninth-grader Isabella Beiring, who attends both the Monday and Wednesday groups, the sessions offer a great respite from the hustle and bustle of the school week. She explained:

I like learning about yoga and mindfulness in general.

I like doing the poses … It can help with stress and anxiety.

The Yellow Springs initiative is the result of Ohio’s new statewide educational approach. Dubbed Each Child, Our Future, the plan hopes to offer mindfulness training and other resources as a way of addressing a mental health epidemic that plagues adolescents and adults alike across the United States.

Among the three fundamentals of the program is social-emotional learning (SEL), which describes the “processes through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.”

The Yellow Springs campuses aren’t alone in offering meditation, mindfulness, and yoga as options to students.

According to a 2015 survey by the National Institutes of Health, over 940 schools across the U.S. offer yoga. And according to federal data, U.S. children practicing yoga rose from 2.3 percent to 8.4 percent —1.3 million to 4.9 million children —between 2007 and 2017, a trend that has likely only increased.

Research has shown that there are myriad benefits to meditation and mindfulness training, including improved responses to stress, processing past events including trauma, as well as boosted social engagement and possibly academic performance.

Erica Sibinga, a professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, told NPR that it is crucial that the exercises are conducted in a professional manner. She added:

Mindfulness when delivered in a high-quality structured program can be beneficial for youth.

We can’t immediately assume it’s effective when delivered in other ways.

Helicopter money coming to Australia

Scott Morrison says coronavirus stimulus package is in the works

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has hinted that a stimulus package will be introduced as the coronavirus threat ramps up across Australia.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said Australia is “well prepared” to face the coronavirus threat, hinting that a stimulus package was in the works as part of the government’s economic response to the epidemic.

Mr Morrison said the government was still working on the details of the package but announced the Treasury is “working closely together with the other relevant agencies of government to address the boost that we believe will be necessary”.

“It will be a targeted plan. It will be a measured plan. It will be a scalable plan. It will be targeted on the real diagnosis of the economic issue we are looking to confront here,” he told reporters.

The Prime Minister said the government would ensure they “do not make the same mistakes” that have been seen when past stimulus measures were introduced.

During his time as prime minister, Kevin Rudd introduced two stimulus packages, one worth $10.4 billion in 2008 and a second package worth $42 billion announced in 2009.

The second package included a $950 cash bonus for every Australian taxpayer who earned less than $80,000.

The decision was criticised by other members of parliament as it put the budget into deficit.

Mr Morrison said there was a lot to be learned from the past stimulus packages.

“There is a lot of learning from what happened last time and it is important that as the business sector bounces back, as it will on the other side of this, this is why this health crisis with economic, significant economic implications, is different from a global financial crisis,” he said.

“If you don’t work to get the details of a package like this right, then it can have very serious implications, both economically and more broadly, and frankly, we saw that last time, and we don’t intend to repeat those mistakes.”

He said the government was focusing on securing jobs, cash flow and investment as the impact of the coronavirus continues to unfold.

FDA announces first drug shortage with more sure to come since most pharmaceuticals are made in China

Despite the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to calm jittery Americans who are increasingly concerned about an outbreak of Wuhan coronavirus at home, things keep happening to undermine the White House’s message.

Like, for instance, an announcement on Friday by the Food and Drug Administration that the country is already short of a drug thanks to the virus.

As The Epoch Times reported, FDA officials including Commissioner Stephen Hahn told various media that they are “closely monitoring” the medical supply chain, but admitted that the spread of the virus well beyond China’s borders, where it originated, is already having a negative impact.

“A manufacturer has alerted us to a shortage of a human drug that was recently added to the drug shortages list,” Hahn said in a statement Thursday night. “The manufacturer just notified us that this shortage is related to a site affected by coronavirus. The shortage is due to an issue with manufacturing of an active pharmaceutical ingredient used in the drug.”

The agency did not say which drug is currently in short supply but since a great many pharmaceuticals and their ingredients are manufactured in China — which itself is suffering from a decline in factory output, thanks to coronavirus — it’s very likely that this won’t be the last medication shortage.

That said, FDA officials did announce that alternative drugs may be available and can take the place of the drug in short supply. Hahn added that the FDA is already working with the drug maker to ramp up production.

“We will do everything possible to mitigate the shortage,” Hahn noted, adding that the virus situation is an “evolving and very dynamic” one.

In addition, as Natural News reported, President Trump is being urged to consider invoking the 1950 “Defense Production Act,” which would give the government the power to regulate private sector production of goods and items needed to prepare for a wider coronavirus outbreak:

As the stock market tanked on new and expanding reports about what appears to be a growing Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in the United States, advisers to President Donald Trump urged him on Thursday to take more drastic measures in order to better prepare the country.

The Illusion of Restoring Peace and Stability in Afghanistan

The US came to Afghanistan to stay, the same is true for all its war theaters by occupation and/or installed puppet regimes serving its interests.

Afghanistan’s troubled history goes back centuries. John Pilger explained that “no country has been abused and suffered more, and none has been helped less than Afghanistan.”

If hell on earth exists, it’s headquartered in Afghanistan — with many global affiliate locations in the modern era, largely because of endless US wars by hot and other means.

For centuries, Afghans endured what few can imagine. Marauding armies besieged cities, slaughtered thousands, and caused vast destruction.

In the 19th century, Afghans were victimized by “great game” struggles between imperial Britain and czarist Russia — a time of endless war, destruction, occupation and human misery, continuing from then to now, notably post-9/11.

Wherever the US shows up, endless wars and mass destruction follow, the human toll of no consequence.

According to Gideon Polya,

“the horrendous carnage of the (post-9/11) US War on Terror (launched in Afghanistan caused) the deaths of 32 million Muslims abroad (by violence or imposed deprivation) and the preventable deaths of 27 million Americans at home inescapably linked to the fiscal perversion of committing to a $7 trillion long-term accrual cost of killing millions of Muslims abroad.”

The true cost is likely three-fold or more higher because of unaccounted for multi-trillions of dollars by the Pentagon since the 1990s.

“Bush, Obama and Trump are indeed American-killing US presidents,” Polya stressed, adding:

“(S)erial war criminal (Trump warned) that “no place is beyond the reach of American might.”

“The US-imposed, 4-decade Afghan Holocaust and Afghan Genocide is to continue under more draconian rules of engagement.”

Since the 1990s, Polya estimated six million preventable Afghan deaths, millions more refugees, an entire population emmiserated, largely post-9/11.

Since US aggression against North Korea in 1950, he estimates around 40 million preventable deaths and tens of millions of refugees.

Since WW II, the US invaded or otherwise attacked “52 countries.”

“American exceptionalism means that the US is disproportionately involved in…existential threats (to) humanity” — notably possible nuclear war that could destroy all life forms on earth.

Balancing act: How India is modernizing its military by buying latest tech from BOTH Russia & the West

As the world’s second largest arms importer, India purchases the latest equipment from both Russian and Western manufacturers to meet its military needs – and it’s this unusual duality that makes India unique among modern armies.

“We make the greatest weapons ever made…and we’re dealing now with India,” US President Donald Trump told a cheering crowd at the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in the Indian city of Ahmedabad last week, as he shared the stage with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indeed, India was named a “Major Defense Partner” by the United States in 2016 and Washington has since been keen to provide New Delhi with its most advanced weapons systems. This made the signing of a new deal for 24 MH-60 ‘Romeo’ naval multi-mission helicopters and six additional AH-64E Apache attack choppers – valued at about $3 billion – a highlight of the US president’s recent trip.

There are more deals in the pipeline, too. India will procure the US’ Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS) with an almost $2 billion price tag, and a fleet of armed ‘Predator’ drones. These purchases could bring the total value of India’s arms deals with Washington over the $20 billion mark this year, making the US its second-biggest arms supplier.

Russia — India’s largest arms supplier

Yet this relationship is a new one. India has traditionally looked closer to home to satisfy its military needs – to the mighty Soviet Union. Though a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War, India has long relied on Russian arms imports. Today, Russian weaponry accounts for roughly 60-70 percent of India’s arms imports.

And business only blossomed further after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Defense deals between Russia and India are set to exceed $16 billion. The latest orders include the S-400 air-defense system, joint production of Kalashnikov rifles and Kamov helicopters for the navy.

During the recent DefExpo 2020 exhibition in Lucknow, New Delhi signed 14 memorandums of understanding with Russian firms for the development and production of land, air and naval systems.

Despite some challenges, India has been able to successfully integrate systems from across the world, including both the US and Russia — two major military competitors and geopolitical adversaries. This ability to balance relations between rival superpowers has led to India being dubbed a ‘swing power’ by some experts.
